1993 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne
From the family collection, disgorged ten years after harvest, slightly lower than original dosage. A wet harvest that meant chardonnay was the hero, pinot noir struggled to get to ripeness. Shows a savoury note to the nose, some intense flint and deep chalkiness, minerally, dried lemon pith and grapefruit. The palate has great acidity, really focused and tight, citrus flavours dominate here, really crisp, chalky and lemony right the way through. Super tight and focused. (NS)
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Vibrant, elegant, spicy aromas of orange peel, mace, nutmeg and ground horseradish. Brisk, steely and firm, but expands inexorably to fill the mouth. Strong in extract but quite light on its feet. A sinewy Champagne, and strong for the vintage. Very long and very fine on the finish. (ST)
Fine example of the vintage, with clean fruit flavors, plenty of depth, great balance and a soothing array of fine bubbles.
