2011 Villa Creek "Bassetti Vineyard" Paso Robles Syrah
Review Date: 05-07-2014
Looking for something to get that special “wine geek” in your life? Look no further! The 2011 Villa Creek Bassetti Syrah is not your proto-typical Paso Robles Syrah. Highly aromatic, it really displays the savory side of Syrah. Notes of dark fruit, herbs, smoke rose and exotic spice. Like all the Villa Creek wines, it carries great weight but does so in a balanced, polished and precise way.

2007 Clendenen "Le Pip" Santa Maria Valley Nebbiolo
Review Date: 05-07-2014
A nose of sappy red fruit and rose, this Nebbiolo spills across the palate with mouth-coating richness. True to form, it finishes dry with that classic grippy Nebbiolo acid/tannin structure. An honest wine, and a great domestic Nebbiolo.

2011 Kenneth Volk Touriga Nacional
Review Date: 05-07-2014
This is an incredibly unique and delicious bottle of wine! Notes of dusty dark fruit, flowers and earthy savor lead to a palate of sweet ripe fruit. Finishing dry with gentle tannin, this wine brings serious character to the table! This will pair perfectly with meals of the rustic variety, with grilled meats in particular.

2011 Denner "Ditch Digger" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Review Date: 05-06-2014
Denner is a very exciting winery, whose experimentation with Rhone varietals has lead to some very interesting wines. The Ditch Digger offers sappy pomegranate fruit concentration on the palate, with notes of pipe tobacco and bacon fat. This wine is no light-weight, but maintains fine tannin and polished edges throughout.

2011 Pierce Ranch San Antonio Valley Arinto
Review Date: 05-06-2014
Arinto!? I was thinking the same thing. This was my experience with the grape varietal, and I have to admit...I was pleasantly surprised! Aromatically it offers notes of intense lime citrus and chalky minerals. On the palate it carries weight, but has uniformity and linear focus. This wine finishes fresh with great acidity and spice.

2011 Ancient Peaks Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 04-23-2014
One visit to the Ancient Peaks vineyards in Santa Margarita, and it becomes abundantly clear how special the land, the people and these wines truly are! Highly charming and expressive, it offers classic cab character of dark plumy fruit, cedar, bay leaf, and olive. Texturally this wine is juicy, but well framed by gentle tannin, acidity and mineral drive.

2012 Talley Estate Arroyo Grande Chardonnay
Review Date: 04-23-2014
Talley continues to produce some of my favorite Chardonnays in California, and the 2012 Estate bottling is no exception. Texturally this Chardonnay displays great balance and refinement. The oak is well integrated, adding weight without becoming overtly rich. Maintaining lively focus throughout, the lovely citrus notes and mineral drive are on full display.

Franck Bonville Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Review Date: 10-26-2010
Made from all estate fruit from Bonville’s Grand Cru vineyards in Avize, this champagne displays ripe citrus and apple fruit on the nose, followed by a rich mid palate and a snappy mineral finish. The Bonville Prestige has everything I am looking for in a Blanc De Blancs at an extremely reasonable price!

2007 Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Review Date: 03-20-2010
One of my favorite Chateauneuf-du-Papes from the 2007 vintage, this offering from Domaine Marcoux is the definition of style and grace. Displaying elegant red berry fruit with notes of anise, lavender, and earth, it possesses firm structure and great acidity. Although showing well now, it will only get better with a bit of bottle age.
