2012 Bench Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 04-15-2015
I think this is one of the best Cabernet Sauvignon coming out of the Alexander Valley. I have tasted many wines twice the price that don't come close to this wine. Dark blue and black fruit nicely hinted with cedar, spice and chocolate. The tannins are big and soft. This wine is ready to roll.

2010 Ladera "Reserve" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 04-15-2015
I can't stop drinking this wine. I'm a big fan of Howell Mountain wines and this wine is one of the reasons why. A rich, deep wine with black fruits, cocoa, mint and vanilla. Tannins are apparent but soften with aeration. Great acidity runs throughout the wine balanced beautifully with the lush fruit. Drink now, drink later. It is a real pleasure.

2013 Hanzell "Sebella" Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir

A second wine from this legendary Pinot Noir producer. This is a blend of the younger fruit on the Estate which is a little more accessible right away. This is a great opportunity to see the genius of Hanzell without waiting the years it usually takes for the wines to mature. A winery like no other. A true California treasure.

2013 Rochioli "Estate" Russian River Valley Chardonnay
Review Date: 03-24-2015
Rochioli has been a Russian River Valley legend for many years. Originally bought in 1953 by Joe Rochioli Sr., the 135 acres ranch at that time was called Fenton Acres. Originally planted to many of the jug wine varietals like French Colombard and Napa Gamay. Joe Sr and Joe Jr planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc in 1959. The Sauvignon Blanc was successful and the original plantings still produce grapes today. The Cabernet Sauvignon didn't work very well and Joe Jr decided to plant Pinot Noir in 1968. Shortly after, Chardonnay was planted and as they say, "The rest is history". The first Rochioli wine was released in 1987 and from day one has been known for great wines. Today, third generation Tom Rochioli is the winemaker and continues the work that his Grandfather and Father did before him.

2012 Krutz Family Cellars "Magnolia Series" Napa Valley Zinfandel
Review Date: 03-24-2015
A Napa Valley Zinfandel for $19.99 ? Very impressive indeed. This Zinfandel is not for the faint of heart. It's a big boy with a lot of big dark fruit, big spice and a multiple layers of flavor. The wine also has amazing backbone which balances out the lush fruit giving this wine great character. Krutz Family Cellars was started by Patrick Krutz back in 2003. A young man from Jackson, Mississippi who came West to find his dream. He found it in the wine business. I have been a fan of the winery and Patrick for several years. The first wine we brought in from them was a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the years, we have brought in many different varietals from many different area of California. Patrick continues to find great fruit sources and the wines continue to get better and better. In 2011, two of Patrick's brothers joined the Company and now it truly is a family affair.

2012 Textbook "Mise en Place" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 03-11-2015
Screaming Eagle, Harlan, Opus One, Dalla Valle, Far Niente and Rudd. These are some of the names that make Oakville one of the most recognizable places to grow and vinify great Cabernet Sauvignon. An Oakville wine that should be recognized as superb in its own right is the 2012 Mise En Place from Textbook. Jonathan and Susan Pey are making great wine year after year but the 2012 has brought Mise En Place to a new level. Rich and ripe with beautiful black and blue fruit layered hints of cedar, vanilla, licorice and graphite. The tannins are very apparent but after two hours in a decanter, they soften wonderfully and bring great joy. Pound for pound this is the Oakville Cabernet to beat.

2013 Kistler "Sonoma Mountain" Chardonnay
Review Date: 02-24-2015
Kistler has been a legendary producer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay since 1979. Sourcing fruit from some of California's top vineyards like Hudson, McCrea and Hyde among others, the quality of the fruit is second to none. With very limited production and high demand, Kistler is one of the most difficult wines to acquire. The 2013 Sonoma Mountain bottling is a great opportunity to taste an example of this brilliant producer and what to expect from the 2013 vintage. A blend of several different vineyards, this wine shows great depth, richness with just enough acidity to balance it out. A very enjoyable wine indeed.
