2015 Fratelli Barale "Le Rose" Dolcetto d'Alba
Review Date: 12-02-2016
Wow!!! This definitely gets THREE Stars from me, what a mouthful of wine. The elegant perfumes will entice you to want to jump into the glass; medium to full-bodied and very supple with overripe cherries, blackberries, bittersweet chocolate and lots of minerals with soft tannins. This wine has such great structure it will stand the test of time, the big problem will be keeping enough around to potently age it. Thinking risottos dishes or a grilled Portobello mushroom, but honestly I am actually drinking this one all by itself with some dried cheese and salami.

2015 Erste e Neue Müller-Thurgau Alto Adige
Review Date: 12-02-2016
From one of our favorite importers of Italian wines, Oliver McCrum, this producer makes wonderfully affordable wines with the quality and authenticity we've come to expect from one of Oliver's selections. The Müller-Thurgau--a Riesling cross created in Switzerland in the 1880s--comes from limestone-rich soils of the Alto Adige. McCrum describes the wine thusly: "Exuberant aroma of lime peel and flowers; zesty, bright and dry on the palate; delicious as a dry aperitif or with cured meats. I drink a lot of this in warmer weather as an aperitif."

2014 Outlier "Noiro" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Review Date: 12-01-2016
Wow! This is really one of the best Pinot Noirs I've tasted at this price point. The bouquet has notes of plum, dark strawberry, clove, chocolate and earth. On the palate there is beautiful balance, with good acidity, soft tannins and very good length. If you're a fan of Pinot, don't miss this great value.

2015 Castello di Verduno "Basadone" Pelaverga
Review Date: 12-01-2016
I first tried this grape varietal with the 2008 vintage, when I met Mario Andrion (Oenologist) and I soon planed a trip to visit the winery in May of 2010 (www.castellodiverduno.it) they have a great hotel ! Pelaverga has a DOC, in the region of Piedmont in Italy. The small zone has a vineyard area of only eight hectares, and includes the commune of Verduno, from which the name is taken, as well as parts of the communes of La Morra and Roddi d´Alba in the province of Cuneo. It’s an amazing medium-bodied red, intense fragrant nose, showing spicy overtones with lots of black pepper and nutmeg, as well as fruity sensations reminiscent of cherries and strawberries. Truly a taste sensation, you must try.

2011 Sportoletti "Villa Fidelia" Rosso
Review Date: 11-30-2016
OK, and now for something completely different from me: “SUPER TUSCAN”! Villa Fidelia Rosso is from Umbria and is composed of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc (percentages will change with vintage). This 2011 is very user friendly and drinks well now: on the palate, flavors of black cherry and plum, leather, tobacco and soft floral notes blend with medium-bodied tannins. The Cab gives this a backbone that you feel, also a smoky vanilla from well-integrated French oak; needs an hour or so decanting time.

2014 Antech "Cuvée Eugenie" Cremant de Limoux
Review Date: 11-23-2016
From the southern French region of the Languedoc comes this beautiful example of Cremant de Limoux, very characteristic of the variety, with perfume of white flower, citrus, lemon soda and drying mineral tones. The wine offers intensity and precision with focused attention on acidity and freshness. A great party pleaser.

2011 Sergio Barale Barolo "Bussia"
Review Date: 11-18-2016
Do not let the price scare you away from this wine. This is serious Barolo, at a not so serious price. If you pay close attention it says "Bussia" on the label now. Red berries, minerals, spice and floral notes with structure, drink now and over the next few years. ( Yes, decanting is a must!).

2014 Fratelli Barale Langhe Nebbiolo
Review Date: 11-18-2016
Love the 2014 vintage of this wine. The nose brings aromas of dried cherry and roses, and on the palate you will find raspberries, tar, tobacco, truffle, and a little Langhe dust with a good tannin structure. I love the elegance to this wine, and with all of its varietal purity here, I would recommend decanting for an hour or so. This would show extremely well with a wild mushroom risotto or a barbecue Tri-tip.

2015 Fratelli Barale "Castle" Barbera d'Alba
Review Date: 11-18-2016
This is classic Fratelli Barale Barbera with dark ripe black cherries and plum, full-bodied with some minerals and dust on the very long and well integrated finish. I would let this open for an hour or so and serve with a grilled Portobello mushroom or burgers and some great friends.

2011 Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 11-18-2016
Here we have a very user friendly Brunelli, Beautiful blackberry, cherry and lightly toasted oak on the nose. Full and soft, with berry and cherry flavors and soft tannins. This is a wine for drinking sooner than later, this will help you keep your hands off your 2010’s.

2012 Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva
Review Date: 11-01-2016
This is simply beautiful. The opulent, forward fruit that is typical of the year is present, but a firm sense of structure keeps things from going over the top. If that sounds appealing you’ll love this wine. Dark red fruit, flowers, minerals and spices come together beautifully in this Riserva. Buy a couple, it will keep.

2014 La Fortuna Rosso di Montalcino
Review Date: 11-01-2016
This Rosso reveals a gorgeous core of perfumed ripe fruit, plum, cassis and kirsch, some leather and cola mid-palate and earthiness that meld into bitter cocoa powder, spices and minerals on the finish. Lush, ripe and flows across your palate. Wow, that’s a lot of wine for under twenty bucks!

2012 Pasetti Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Review Date: 11-01-2016
There is nothing musty or old-fashioned about this straightforward red, with fresh, "modern" styling in its rich, dark fruit and sweet tannins. Made entirely of the Montepulciano grape from the region of Abruzzo, this will work well with a pizza/pasta or just a great wine to serve to the "family" on Sunday night. Plays well with food -- especially tricky tomato sauce. Nice lift and acidity, but with the ripe fruit flavors of Abruzzo, which is located on the "calf" of the boot of Italy.

2014 Ferrero Rosso di Montalcino
Review Date: 11-01-2016
The wine is full of ripe Sangiovese fruit, plum, spicy blackberry, and cassis with cocoa powder that coat the palate with a little Tuscan dust on the finish of this Full-bodied wine that is showing great acidity and very well balanced tannins. Think Mom's best lasagna recipe or better yet, a good friend and some Pecorino.

2014 La Fortuna "Fortunello" Rosso di Toscano
Review Date: 11-01-2016
This is another wine that earned two stars from me. Made of 100% Sangiovese and aged a few months in oak, the nose is classic ripe cherries and strawberries and a hint of cocoa powder. On the palate of this full-bodied wine, you will find the fruit described above with a touch of minerals and soft tannins, which give this wine a very lush feel to the palate, and an incredibly long finish.

2014 Baricci Rosso di Montalcino
Review Date: 11-01-2016
Woo-hoo! Baricci’s back in town! Ever time I raise a glass of this wine to my lips, it brings me back to Montalcino. Why? because there is so much Montalcino in the glass. This Rosso reveals perfumed, ripe fruit of plum, cassis and kirsch, some leather and cassis mid-palate, and earthiness that meld into ripe strawberries, spices and minerals on the long finish.

2011 Baricci Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 11-01-2016
This wine is from this extraordinary portion of Montalcino's most famous single vineyard "Montosoli" and is full of black cherry, cinnamon, anise, cardamom and leather. It's spicy, gamy and full of what I call sweet earth (that Montalcino, dusty minerality). A more rustic wine than the one above. I would give this at least three to four hours of breathing time and could possible see its tenth birthday, but only if you can keep your hands off that long.

2013 Ferrero Rosso di Toscana
Review Date: 11-01-2016
And now for something completely different! This is a Super Tuscan at a super price. This bad boy is made up of 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 17% Montepulciano and 17% Alicante, and I swear you can taste all of these. On the palate you will find flavors of black cherry, plum and soft floral notes blended with silky tannins. The Cabernet gives this a backbone you can feel and a nice, smooth and long finish.

2015 Silvano Follador Prosecco Brut Nature
Review Date: 11-01-2016
It's back!!! This is a perfect wine for this time of year. This Prosecco has been one of K&L’s best sellers since we started bringing it in many years ago. There is melon and green apple, and it is crisp and floral on the palate. A long finish and a subtle mousse make this delicious wine a sure bet for your table. This wine will work well as an alternative to Champagne. These are GREAT holiday bubbles--stock up for Silvano, it always sells out quickly.

2015 Antinori San Giovanni Orvieto
Review Date: 11-01-2016
This Orvieto is a blend of 50% Grechetto, 25% Procanico, 25% Pinot Blanc and Viognier. The latter two gives the wine body and weight, the Procanico (Trebbiano) a bold aromatic character, the Grechetto lifts the aromatics and balances the body and adds some grip, structure and a decisive finish. It feels more like a white Rhone wine but its aromatics are unique. This is a great party sipper, or on the couch with a book and some cheese. Did I mention I LOVE this wine ? Yuummers!!!

2015 Centovigne "Della Motta" Rosso
Review Date: 09-11-2016
This rosso is made up of 70% Nebbiolo and a 30% blend of indigenous Croatina and Uva Rara. I opened this one on Sunday night and immediately poured it into a decanter and let it open for an hour. There is plenty of fruit, good acidity, soft tannin structure, some minerality, and a lengthy finish. The combination of blue/dark fruit and the black cherry comes from the Nebbiolo, I also find some tar and roses on the lengthy finish.

2012 Cantine di Ora "Amicone" Rosso Veneto
Review Date: 08-13-2016
Valpolicella has undergone an amazing transformation from the 60s Bolla version with a red-checked tablecloth to the suave and ultra-hip wine region. This wine is a midway point between simple and fresh and the power and size of the Amarone taking the best from both.
