2015 Tormaresca "Calafuria" Salento Rosato
Review Date: 07-22-2016
Most of our customers know Tormaresca label for their GREAT inexpensive red and now we introduce you to their Rose’. Yea!!! It’s 100% Negroamaro, a light salmon pink color, fascinating aromas of wild mountain strawberries, some herbal notes and lots of great acidity and with a touch of mineral on the long-lasting aftertaste. Buy a few—the bottle empties quickly. This is a great wine for the brunch crowd or just sipping some while sitting on the porch with a favorite book.

2012 Cantine Ascheri Barolo
Review Date: 07-19-2016
This wine has a vibrant, ruby red hue, with super intense notes of Bing cherry, red licorice, exotic Asian spice and black tea. The oak is present, but very well integrated. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied with soft tannin's but no astringency. The streak of acidity pulls it all together into a seamless, utterly gorgeous wine. Could easily hold its own against Barolos twice its price. The only draw back to this wine is also an attribute, that being that the tannin structure that makes the wine so appealing now means it's one for the short to mid term, not a 20 year wine. So practice that risotto recipe or score yourself some lamb shank and enjoy al fresco with loved ones.

2011 Felsina Chianti Classico Riserva
Review Date: 07-14-2016
This wine is classic Sangiovese, sweet, expansive, floral, black cherry, and kirsch liqueur-like aromas. As it sits in the glass, hints of leather and Tuscan dust emerge from this medium to full-bodied, flavorful Chianti.

2013 Farnetella Chianti Colli Senesi
Review Date: 07-13-2016
Chianti Colli Senesi is perhaps Chianti's most unsung subzone, located on the hills surrounding Siena and I love what his area does to Sangiovese. This Farnetella is just bang for your buck, medium- bodied, dark fruit and a little bit of Siena on the palate. Buy a couple for you next Bar-B –Que, bugers or fowl would love this.

2013 Felsina Chianti Classico
Review Date: 07-13-2016
From the very user friendly 2013 vintage, this is one of our best values from Tuscany, black cherries, spicy oak, and a touch of earth. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied, with fine concentration and a dry finish, with well integrated and soft tannins. Enjoy tonight and over the next couple years.

2010 Felsina "Fontalloro" Toscana
Review Date: 07-13-2016
This 2010 Fontalloro is 100% Sangiovese sourced from few different vineyards and is simply beautiful. The opulent, forward fruit that is typical of the year is present, but a firm sense of structure keeps things from going over the top. If that sounds appealing you’ll love this wine. Dark red fruit, flowers, minerals and spices come together beautifully and with 2010 structure should age very well, tuff to keep your hands off this wine.

2011 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva
Review Date: 07-13-2016
This boasts a deep ruby/purple color, lots of black cherries, raspberries, and currants with hints spice, Tuscan dust and minerals. There is a great texture on this full- bodied wine; it has a long, authoritative finish that combines power with elegance. I would drink this over the next couple of years.

2014 Blason Friulano Isonzo
Review Date: 07-12-2016
This varietal (formerly Tocai Friulano, the pride of Friuli), although so much less-known than Pinot Grigio, has become the staff favorite at K&L, as well as among our more adventurous customers. Not like the thin, simple Italian whites of yesteryear, this wine is a mouthful. It has really great aromatics, with hints of tarragon and acacia blossom, and a stunning complexity that comes from its unique soil composition in this distant corner of Italy. So when the heat is on this summer, reach for a cool Friulano—we know you’ll love it! By the way, all of Blason’s wines are under 12.5% abv.

2010 Villa Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Review Date: 07-06-2016
The wines of Poggio Salvi are rich, ripe, dense and full, but retain their balance and elegance. The 2010 Riserva Brunello is a stellar example of the vintage, and an exceptional bargain at this price. The palate has pretty black cherry fruit with nice earthy, leather, iodine and spicy notes, great structure and good balance of acidity and tannins, and an aftertaste that is incredibly long. Rockin 2010 !

2012 Grattamacco "L'Alberello" Bolgheri Superiore
Review Date: 07-06-2016
The 2012 Grattamacco "L'Alberello" Bolgheri Superiore captures the pure essence of Bolgheri, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. You will find black fruit with leather, tobacco and herbal notes on the dry full-bodied wine. A big Florentine steak will do just fine with this.

2012 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana
Review Date: 07-06-2016
This wine is 100% Sangiovese and a small marvel of class and power, especially when the vintage is taken into account. There is wonderful richness of fruit, which melds beautifully with the aristocratic oak, giving spicy scents which come through on the palate, dark-fruit, ripe strawberries with concentrated aromas of blackberries, dark coco powder and stony minerals. Full-bodied, with soft tannins and an incredibly long finish, will age very well.

2014 La Monacesca Verdicchio di Matelica
Review Date: 05-26-2016
This 2014 Verdicchio di Matelica, is a very good example for the vintage. Offers apple and refreshing citric fruit flavors, and aromas with the characteristic touch of green herbs, is a wonderful value, a well-rounded wine, beautifully structured, soft on the palate but with a slight suggestion of almond (typical for Verdicchio), a great summer sipping wine and is very food-friendly.

2013 Luce Della Vite "Lucente" Toscana

This is one of my favorite producers from Tuscany. This is their "Super Tuscan" - a very user friendly wine, the blend is Merlot and Sangiovese. Lots of dark skinned fruit with spice, minerals that complete each other on the nose and palate. The wine has pleasantly soft tannins, but good acidity to pull it all together. $20 bucks WooHoo !!!

2013 Taken Napa Valley Red Blend
Review Date: 05-25-2016
This is a great California meritage, wonderful layers from the grape varietals, rich and ripe dark fruit very luscious and dry finish. Great wine for all the Bar-B-Ques this Summer, pull the cork and you are good to go!

2013 Rocca di Montegrossi Chianti Classico
Review Date: 05-21-2016
Here is one of our most popular wines from Tuscany! The 2013 reminds me a lot of the 2004 vintage: black cherries, spicy oak, and a touch of earth. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied, with fine concentration, with well integrated and soft tannins. Enjoy tonight (needs decanting time, an hour or so) and over the next few years.

2014 Terre da Vino "Masseria dei Carmelitani" Gavi di Gavi
Review Date: 05-21-2016
This is Cortese (the region is Gavi in Piedmont) it has very delicate perfumes of apples and apricots. It is un-oaked and crisp, with citrus and peach fruit and notes of herbs and is wonderfully delicate but with great structure, love its length & balance as well as its complexity. Salute Guido!

2011 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva
Review Date: 05-20-2016
I met Fabrizio Bianchi from Monsanto in the early eighties and have been a fan and follower ever since. Mr. Bianchi is certainly one of the earliest pioneers in trying to change the image of Chianti as well as the grapes involved. Fabrizio is a big believer in Sangiovese, the main grape in Chianti and the backbone of most Tuscan wines. He was one of the first in Chianti to make wines 100% Sangiovese in the early '70s. The terroir of this region is evident and expressed consistently, spicy, mineral laden, complex fruits and good acidity. I love this 2011, but be warned! It will go quick!

2010 La Fiorita Brunello di Montalcino

2011 Agostino Bosco "La Serra" Barolo
Review Date: 04-01-2016
This wine brings aromas of dried cherry, and rose’s and on the palate you will find raspberries, tar, tobacco, truffle, and a little Langhe dust with a good tannin structure. I love the elegance to this wine, and with all of its varietal purity here, I still might want to decant it for a couple hours or can even age for a couple of years (up to five or six years if you are that patient), and I am thinking it would show best with a wild mushroom risotto or a barbecue tri-tip.

2011 Fratelli Barale Barolo "Cannubi"
Review Date: 03-29-2016
This Barolo Cannubi emerges from the glass with surprising richness and weight. Berries, flowers and spices flow effortlessly from this rich, textured Cannubi. The wine shows quite a bit more depth than is usually the case for a vineyard that tends towards the feminine, but the textural elegance and silkiness on the mid-palate and finish serve to provide a sense of proportion. Fine, elegant tannins frame the close.

This wine’s perfume is pure nebbiolo: raspberry fruit and dried rose petals with a touch of tobacco and lots of cedar, bursting with sweet fruit, tar, minerals, displaying outstanding depth and fine overall balance. This wine will drink well now and over the next few years, best with the heartiest meats or stews.

2013 Zaccagnini "Tralcetto" Montepulciano d' Abruzzo Riserva
Review Date: 03-25-2016
I recently showed this for a small consumer tasting and sold four cases in just less than 3 hours and these were people buying quantities of this wine. (Have to do this one more time. Montepulciano the grape has nothing to do with Montepulciano- the Tuscan town.) I gave it two stars**. There are aromas of blackberries, and floral notes; on the palate you will find smoke, wild cherries and minerals, with plenty of dark fruit that carries through to the finish. There is outstanding depth here, not to mention terrific overall balance.

Woo-hoo! Baricci’s is back in town! Ever time I raise a glass of this wine to my lips, it brings me back to Montalcino. Why? because there is so much Montalcino in the glass. This Rosso reveals perfumed ripe fruit of plum, cassis and kirsch, some leather and cassis, mid- pallet and earthiness that meld into ripe strawberries, spices and minerals on the long finish.

Made from grapes known also as Frappato di Vittoria, this wine is fragrant, fresh and bursting out, intense notes of cherries, blackberry and raspberry. 2014 Bava Malvasia "Rosetta" Castelnuovo Don Bosco

A slightly effervescent, extremely aromatic red wine with low alcohol (5.5%). Bava's version shows off an unusual marriage of freshness, weight, and aromatic complexity. Wild red berry fruit is gloriously evident on the nose, along with fascinating hints of blossoms, particularly wisteria and iris. Served well chilled, and buy two—the first bottle empties quickly.

2010 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Review Date: 12-01-2015
A few of these will go down in my cellar next to their older siblings (the 2001s) and will try to forget that they are there. Gioberto Zannoni and his son Angelo have hit another one out of the ballpark. This is a classic 2010 Brunello. It needs a couple of hours to open up.

2013 Marangona Lugana 'Tre Campane'
Review Date: 10-16-2015
100% "Turbiana," or Trebbiano di Lugana, grown using a "double arc" cordon in calcareous, mineral-rich clay soil. The grapes are picked by hand into small boxes, pressed as whole clusters, and fermented at low temperature. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is aged on its fine lees for about 4 months, then bottled early in the following year. No oak or malolactic fermentation. The vines are around 20 years old. Pale straw color; aroma of almonds, herbs, citrus and a touch of apricot; flavors completely consistent, with excellent acidity, fresh and long. I love this as an aperitif, or as a broadly useful table wine (roast chicken, fish...).

There is nothing musty or old fashioned about this straightforward red, with fresh "modern" styling in its rich dark fruit and sweet tannins. Made entirely of the Montepulciano grape from the region of Abruzzo, this will work well with a pizza/pasta or just a great wine to serve to the "Family" on Sunday night. Plays well with food - especially tricky tomato sauce. Nice lift and acidity, but with the ripe fruit flavors of Abruzzo - which is located on the "calf" of the boot of Italy.
