2007 Casale della Ioria Cesanese del Piglio "Campo Novo"
Review Date: 05-15-2011
Wow, Chris you didn't steer me wrong on this one! I love it. Has that deep purple berry thing going on but also plenty of nice acidity. I also get a little violet soapiness. Quite lovely.
2009 Phillipe Tessier Cheverny Rouge
Review Date: 01-09-2011
This is a wine to love and drink much of! This is a sunny wine, no pretense here, with a mouthful of fruit balanced out by acidity to make it one of the most food-friendly and pleasurable wines I've had recently. It's got the juicy fun of gamay, the heft and silkiness of malbec and the finesse and mouthwatering acidity of pinot. This will go with whatever you're eating, especially those hard-to-pair delicate foods. What a find!
2009 Camino de Navaherreros Garnacha Vinos de Madrid
Review Date: 09-20-2010
This is a very pretty shimmering translucent ruby in the glass. On the palate it explodes with bright concentrated red fruits, tangy rasberry and cranberry. It's almost a bit too intensely tangy on its own, though not without interest, but it really shines with food, particularly mediterranean flavors - think olives and cured meats, or a tangy cheese and tomatoes. The purity and concentration on this are really exceptional for the price and I think it will surprise and delight you. It feels to me like a great summer wine so drink up while the sun still shines.
2005 Celler de Capcanes "Mas Donis" Barrica Montsant
Review Date: 09-05-2010
This Montsant really packs in a lot of pleasure for its price. I've come to realize that I may be partial to grenache-based blends. This one delivers extremely bright red fruits in a medium body with just enough musty barnyard and sagey brush notes to keep it grounded and interesting. It definitely reminded of a Cotes-du-Rhone but it also has its own unique freshness that sets it apart. A stellar deal.
2006 Les Clos Perdus "Prioundo" Corbières
Review Date: 09-05-2010
So happy these vineyards were found! This is an extremely food friendly and very pretty Southern French wine. It's light to medium bodied but very complex with a nose of red fruits, dried flowers and spice, and a very lively palate bursting with mouthwatering bright fruit with a delightful earthy, herbal note. Being vegetarian I'm always on the lookout for veg-friendly reds and this one definitely fit the bill.
