Although I've been a wine lover for over 15 years, I never seem to feel like anything but a blundering novice. So much to learn...and more importantly, taste! How will I fit it all into one lifetime?

2009 Banshee Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Review Date: 03-06-2011
Quite fruit forward compared to most Pinots I've had, but I love it! So juicy & lush, a real lip smacker. Really silky and mouth filling with candied rhubarb & strawberries. Finishes with a touch of smoky vanilla. Sacrifices on complexity, but one gets such a burst of flavors on the palate, it's hard to complain...

2008 Bodegas Olivares "Altos de la Hoya" Jumilla
Review Date: 03-06-2011
This wine begs for food. Maybe a grilled ribeye with Romesco (any hearty Spanish fare, for that matter) or in my case hamburgers with bacon jam and cheddar. Morello cherries, raspberries, and just a hint of leather. Quite nice for the price.

2009 Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc-Viognier

Such a pretty little wine! I get citrus blossoms on the nose, white peaches and just the barest hint of acacia honey on the palate. It's an easy drinker and a real crowd pleaser. Has me planning a little picnic for the first warm day of Spring...

Mr. Parker was NOT kidding about the smoky bacon fat! Fantastic character and length for a $10 wine! Lovely juicy blackberry on the finish. Would definitely agree with the previous reviewer about the air time.

Launois "Cuvée Reserve" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

It's no wonder this is so popular! A crowd-pleaser that manages to be interesting enough to appeal to more experienced palates. Freshly cut Honeycrisp apple and buttery lemon curd with touches of light cream and brioche...on fairy wings. More, please!
