Just a wine drinker, been hosting monthly tastings for years, but hardly an expert. Maybe someday...

1997 Labegorce, Margaux
Review Date: 08-26-2012
Tasted against '97s from du Tertre, Poujeaux, and Potensac, and outclassed them all by a good margin. Drinking beautifully right now.

2001 La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" Reserva Especial Rioja
Review Date: 07-22-2012
In a tasting of 8 reserva and gran reserva riojas, this was a stand out (along with the very different 2001 Saturnia Reserva). Medium bodied, bright red fruit, great acid on the finish. Buying more right now.

1994 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien
Review Date: 01-28-2012
Lovely, but could easily improve for another decade, with tannins and power to spare. Poured against the 2007, which is a bargain for half the price (but you'll need patience). Also opened a 1982 Mondavi Reserve, however, and it stole the show (for less money).

2005 Mille Roses, Haut-Médoc

Great, approachable bordeaux, handily beat 2004 Arrowood Napa Cab in side by side tasting, was a great value at $26, steal at this new price.

2006 Napanook Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Review Date: 11-14-2009
Approachable, easy to like, likely versatile with food, more gentle than 87% cab base suggests, good value, but outclassed by 2005 Ruston La Maestra and 2005 HIdden Ridge Sonoma cabs it was tasted against.

2004 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 11-14-2009
Perfectly nice, approachable, drinking well young, but without much character or structure. Would be excellent at half the price, but hard to justify at $85+, clearly bested by 2005 Groth Reserve and 2002 BV Latour tasted against.

2006 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 11-14-2009
Dead last finisher against 2006 Groth Reserve, 2002 BV Latour, 2004 Silver Oak Napa, 2003 Blankiet, 1997 Mondavi Reserve. Clearly still very young, overwhelming green stem on the nose and high acid. Improved steadily with multiple decatings over many hours, but hard to recommend this when there are many other great options at this price.

1997 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Review Date: 11-14-2009
Fantastic, still young in 2009 (in magnum), great structure, fine tannins, reserved style with lots of finesse surprising for the vintage. A favorite tasted against 2002 BV Latour, 2004 Silver Oak Napa, 2006 Caymus Special Select.

2005 Groth "Reserve" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 11-14-2009
Fantastic cab, the real stand out in tasting against 2004 Silver Oak, 2006 Caymus Special Select, 2002 BV Latour (but bested by 1997 Mondavi Reserve and 2003 Blankiet). A fruit driven, big style, but very well put together. Decanted for 2 hours before tasting.
