2007 Quinta de Aveleda Vinho Verde, Portugal
Review Date: 07-10-2009
My first foray into the world of Vinho Verde won't be my last. At 11.5% apv, I'm amazed at how well the light fizz adds a touch of variete to the fruity minerality, making this go down as easy as juice. Delicious, alcoholic juice.

2007 Margarett's Vineyard California Chardonnay
Review Date: 07-09-2009
Unlike the dominant buttery-style chardonnays, the wine has an appealing fruit nose, especially pear tones. However, ultimately lacking, having flat, awkward structure and a forgettable finish. I'm not sure I 'get' this one..

2008 Neil Ellis "Sincerely" Sauvignon Blanc
Review Date: 07-05-2009
Unlike the fruit-forward New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, full of herbal, grassy notes. Needed a few hours to really open up, but once oxiginated, the sugars blossomed, balancing the herbal elements and softening the finish.

2005 Vinos de Terruños "LaMilla" Monastrell Jumilla
Review Date: 07-05-2009
Tasty. Feels like a remote cousin to the more popular Bodegas Jumilla which is powerfully spicy. Instead, smooth spice tempered with ample fruit.

2007 Bodegas Luzon, Luzon, Jumilla, Spain
Review Date: 07-02-2009
Review disclaimer: I don't even like Monastrell or Sryah normally. Wow, 'overdelivers' is an understatement. On the front end, I was surprised at how big this wine was, jumping into my mouth with spicy flavors. Then towards the mid section, it comes down to a nice, tannic intermission. And then, the finish is long and lingering. I can see why these bottles are jumping off the shelf.

2003 Renato Corino "Arborina" Barolo
Review Date: 06-29-2009
I disagree with Wine Spectator's assessment of a 'full-bodied palate.' I may be exposing my preference to bigger reds and American+French varietals but I found this wine to be very light with little stimulation to my mid-rear palate. Although the finish was longer than expected, the wine lacked the structure or complexity I enjoy in red varietals. One thing that did impress me was that for a wine for a relatively high alcohol content (14.5%), it was very easy to drink. Given it's light structure, great complement to food, too. Although it should be noted that the dinner party I brought this to was all first generation Italians and they all enjoyed it - so there go my biases out the window!

2008 Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Review Date: 06-28-2009
New Zealand is producing delicious value wines these days, and this Dashwood is no exception. In comparison to the more crisp Veramonte Sauvignon Blanc from Chile, this wine brings loads of citrus fruit flavor. Highly recommended for a warm summer day!

2007 Blason Sauvignon
Review Date: 06-27-2009
A lovely Italian sauvignon blanc. Hints of oak balanced by crisp fruit flavor. Made the mistake of eating this with a pizza margherita, should have paired with seafood - white fish would have been perfect! A pleasurable, easy drinker, but not overly memorable. Still, at this price, worth every penny!

What a bargain! All stainless steel fermentation produces a light, crisp and refreshing wine - perfect for a summer afternoon or dinner of oysters. Loads of citrus flavor and well-balanced finish. Highly recommend at this price.

2007 Perrin & Fils "Reserve" Côtes du Rhône

In a word: yummy. Not a huge body, but doesn't pose to have one. Impressive range for such a nimble wine. Good balance of fruit and spice. Goes down easy, maybe too easy?

2007 La Hitaire Blanc "Les Tours" Vin de Pays des Côtes de Gascogne
Review Date: 06-06-2009
Tasty french wine for $8.99? Yes, you read correctly! A full-mouth, citrus-focused flavor which did not dissapoint. Good intensity of sugar on the front with a clean finish. If I were to critique, perhaps a bit too sweet, would prefer a bit more crisp mineral snap.
