Faultline K&L Exclusive St. Lucia Rum (750ml)
Review Date: 11-21-2013
Seriously great stuff, but not for the faint of heart.

David OG told me this stuff is nicknamed "pirate juice" and I can see why. It has lots and lots of flavor. Molasses and camphor come on strong right from the get go. Softer notes of vanilla and baking spices follow behind.

The flavor is strong and bright. Around Thanksgiving I'm enjoying the punch it adds to a pumpkin spice latte. When summer rolls back around, I'm looking forward to trying it with ginger beer and a twist of lime over ice.

Faultline Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)
Review Date: 10-15-2013
I picked up a bottle yesterday and opened it last night. Right from the get go, my reaction can best be summarized as "Wow!!" Seriously, this is fantastic bourbon.

This is one of the most enjoyable whiskies I've ever had. I hope everyone else avoids it so there's more for me.

The blend of two bourbons creates a wonderful complexity. The nose is hot and intriguing. The palate is bursting with well-balanced flavors, somehow managing to be both sweet and spicy and with plenty of oak but not too much. The mouth feel is rich. The finish lingers long with the flavors continuing to wrestle with one another as they fade out.

The only factor limiting my enjoyment is the finish. It's a bit too busy for me. There. I've said it. I wish the whiskey was a little more one-noted, at least at the finish. To me, that would be more relaxing. But that's just me.

I love what K&L is doing with the Faultline brand - putting out top-quality spirits that are excellent values. This one would still be stunningly awesome at twice the price.

Mount Gay XO Barbados Rum (750ml)
Review Date: 04-17-2013
This was one of three rums being poured at a tasting at K&L tonight. I mostly drink bourbon and rye. This was nothing like any rum I'm used to and really does have a bourbon flavor profile. There's sweetness, a bit of spice, mild oak, and plenty of tropical fruits.

This works straight and should be good on the rocks. Frank was recommending it with a twist of lime and a dash of bitters. I would love to see what this does to an old fashioned.

Mount Gay 1703 Master Select Rum Barbados (750ml)
Review Date: 04-17-2013
Wow. I had the pleasure of sampling 1703 and two other Mount Gay rums at a tasting at K&L tonight. This one was outstanding. It compares favorably to 40 year old Scotch or Cognac and has a lot in common with both of those. Very soft, very mature flavor. Tremendous complexity. And very mild oak flavors for being as old as it is. Highly recommended for sipping straight.
