2011 Mt. Beautiful Pinot Noir Cheviot Hills New Zealand
Review Date: 05-03-2013
I have to agree with the K&L staff on this one. On the nose this wine has fresh red berries, spices and chai. The palate is fresh, lithe and elegant. A great value for under $20.

2010 Rippon Osteiner Central Otago New Zealand

This wine has a nice balance of fruit, minerality and acidity. I was quite impressed with the crisp long finish of this rare varietal. Try something new.

2008 Vina Von Siebenthal Carmenere Reserva Single Vineyard Aconcagua
Review Date: 04-09-2011
This is my favorite wine under $10. The von Siebenthal carmenere is a great introduction to carmenere for those who have not tried this varietal. It's nose has a distinct coffee aroma and a hint of vanilla. The palate is medium bodied with some complexity and soft tannins. I read somewhere that a carmenere is a cabernet with silk pajamas. This wine is a good example of that description.

2005 Moon Mountain Sonoma Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 03-29-2011
I found this wine to be surprisingly elegant at this price point. It has a pleasant nose with coffee scents. It has a light body (for a cab) and silky tannins. I found earthy flavors in the mid-palate. A tiny grip in the finish. Only a hint of complexity, but quite good for $13. The K&L staff is right on this one. The sediment is quite heavy.

2007 Viña Von Siebenthal Parcela #7
Review Date: 03-15-2011
I'm surprised that the Parcela 7 has not gotten more attention. Robert Parker praised the winery, and he was right. The Parcela 7 shows the elegance and balance of a more expensive wine. Not too fruity and very approachable with fine integrated tannins. For $12, it has great QPR.
