1997 Potensac, Médoc

Jancis Robinson: "Dark glowing crimson. Grunty, very concentrated. Arguably the miracle here is to find a wine from Jean-Hubert Delon under £20. And one you could actually think of drinking too. This should certainly appeal to classicists—especially those knowledgeable enough to know it’s related to the most expensive super second of all, Léoville Las Cases." (9/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A soft, cedary, herbaceous, but pleasant, round, elegant style of wine, with berry and red currant fruit, and a smooth finish... (R)=P)" (4/2000) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good ruby-red. Smoky aromas of plum and leather. Lush, smooth and ...Read More »

1999 Bodegas Puelles Gran Reserva Rioja Top Pick!
1999 Bodegas Puelles Gran Reserva Rioja

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Gran Reserva has an enticing red cherry, soy and cedar-scented bouquet that is reminiscent of an old Burgundy. The palate is very well-balanced with fine acidity and edgy tannin. There are notes of fresh red cherries and orange rind interlaced by leather on the tart, highly enjoyable, zesty finish. Drink now-2018. (NM)" (8/2012) K&L Notes: Wow--this is spectacular Gran Reserva! Made in a traditional style with earthy red fruit aromas, and in this relatively cooler, damper vintage, a slightly Burgundian profile. The wine features good acidity, minerality, and... 2005 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Reserva Rioja Top Pick!
2005 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Reserva Rioja

92 points James Suckling: "This has a beautiful depth of fruit with spice and dark fruits. Hints of parsley and cilantro. Full and super silky with a long and beautiful finish." (5/2013) K&L Notes: Composed of the same grapes in the same percentages as the Crianza, the Reserva is a barrel selection of wines that Angel feels can undergo longer aging in barrel and then in bottle. Aged a total of 27 months in barrels, then into concrete for more than a year, the Reserva also sees bottle aging until Angel deems it ready for release. This wine ramps up the intensity of the Crianza, with more pungen... Read More »

2003 Lanessan, Haut-Médoc (375ml)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Always one of the better values and ageworthy wines from the Haut-Medoc, Lanessan’s 2003 possesses lots of cedarwood, creme de cassis and forest floor notes, outstanding ripeness, low acidity, and a round, generous mouthfeel with no desiccation or flaws. (RP)" (8/2014) Spirit Journal: "Dense crimson. Delicate scent. Complete if not exactly subtle. A bit brutal with lots of acidity. And those dry tannins, and some rasping greenness on the end. 2001 Lanessan, Haut-Médoc

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Lanessan's 2001 is a consistent overachiever in Haut-Medoc. This wine nearly rivals the outstanding 2000. It is a seriously-extracted, dark ruby/purple-colored offering with ripe cassis fruit, notes of leather and earth, and a hint of truffles. It is medium-bodied, pure, and savory, with copious tannin. It will age well for 10-15 years." (4/2002) K&L Notes: Over 10,000 bottles sold over the years. A perfect drinking wine right now. So delicious and mineral driven. Sweet core of fruit. Buy cases. 1995 York Creek Spring Mountain District Meritage (Previously $55)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby color. Vibrant aromas of cassis, black cherry, shoe polish and oak spice. Firm, focused dark berry flavors are supported by a solid spine of acids and tannins. Very unevolved but not hard or tart. Should age slowly and well." (6/1999) Wine Spectator: "Tight and firm, with a compact focus on the chunky currant, mineral, plum and blackberry flavors, it slowly unfolds to reveal more nuances. Should reward patience in the cellar. Made by Cathy Corison." (1/2000)

2001 Tertre Daugay, St-Emilion

Jancis Robinson: "60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc. Ripe, expressive, dry fruit. Tannins that sneak up on the finish. Lovely development of flavour, but the palate is a bit angular. Drink to 2018. (RH)" (6/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This appears to be an attractive, elegant, strong effort from Tertre-Daugay. The wine shows deep, sweet, herb-tinged black cherry and currant fruit intermixed with some spice box and fruitcake. It is elegant, medium-bodied, sweet..." Rather simple Cabernet flavours but very correct and without a blemish. Not bad value. (16/20 points)" (12/2009) Whisky Advocate: "This blend of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a saturated ruby/purple color as well as an excellent sweet nose of black cherries, black currants, leather, and a hint of vanilla. 1998 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Gran Reserva Rioja Top Pick!
1998 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Gran Reserva Rioja

This is an amazing value for aged, quality Gran Reserva Rioja. All estate fruit, hand harvested, and carefully vinified with native yeasts, this is a hand sewn wine with the purity, texture and elegance to prove it. Having spent 38 months in barrel and many more months in bottle, this Gran Reserva smells of ripe red fruit and chewy, dried fruits as well, with a subtle hint of tobacco. On the palate, the red fruits show great development, with lots of chalky minerality and the elegance of a middle aged Gran Reserva. A perfect blend of rusticity and elegan... Read More »

2005 La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" Reserva Rioja

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby. Sexy, highly perfumed aromas of red fruit preserves, vanilla, mocha and fresh flowers, with a hint of pipe tobacco coming up with air. Sappy and broad on entry, then more taut in the middle, with sweet cherry-vanilla and spicecake flavors given lift by juicy acidity. Closes smooth, spicy and long, with lingering smokiness and fine-grained tannins adding grip. A touch more lively than the excellent 2004 version of this wine and of equal quality, which makes it an outstanding value in old-school Rioja." 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Surprisingly dry, this has richness rather than sweetness, and intense, powerful botrytis. The honey is intensely perfumed, along with baked apples and spice. Certainly a long-aging wine." (6/2008)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "92+ points. (no tasting note given)" (4/2008)91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright golden yellow. Cool, pungent nose offers hints of orange, marzipan, sexy brown spices, parsley, grass and eucalpytus. Sweet, thick and powerful but with its fat fruit flavors cut by strong acidity. 2005 Terredora "Pago dei Fusi" Taurasi (Elsewhere $60)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Taurasi Pago dei Fusi is a huge, explosive wine. It possesses superb delineation of aromas and flavors to match its dark, brooding personality. Sweet balsamic notes develop in the glass, adding further complexity as the wine gradually builds towards a powerful close. The 2005 doesn't appear to quite have the finesse of the 2004, but it comes very close. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. 2004 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne

96 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2004 Dom Pérignon continues to develop beautifully. A vibrant, focused Champagne, the 2004 clearly reflects the personality of the year. Freshly cut flowers, white peaches and pears are woven together in a Champagne that impresses for its focus and energy. Chiseled saline note support the crystalline finish. I imagine the 2004 will always remain relatively bright and linear, but at the same time, each time I have tasted it over the last two years the 2004 seems to have a little more body and broader shoulders. (1/2014)91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Rusty and mature looking, this is woodsy, dry and rooty on the nose, with whiffs of tree bark and tobacco running alongside cherry and berry notes. 2006 Launois "Spécial Club" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne (ships as 1.5L)

Our staff loved the 2005--"Wow this is decadent Champagne!" pretty much sums up the rave reviews--and we're excited now to offer the 2006. We began importing the Champagnes of Launois about a decade ago, though we haven't been able to promote them properly because our allocations were very tight. Fortunately for us, Bernard Launois has decided to export more! Champagne Launois' wines are highly sought after, so much so, in fact, that we've sold their Champagne to Champenois who can't get it at home! (3/2008) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Space limitations did not allow complete tasting notes for this Cru Bourgeois, but 2005 is the finest vintage for these wines since 1982. Very fresh and tightly wound. The palate has a very composed style to it with great depth and oak integration; long and powerful but quite sleek through the middle. The light to medium-bodied palate shows fully resolved tannins, great acidity and pure, pungent flavors that linger in the mouth forever and that can only be Rioja. Toasted nuts, double cream brie, oysters and roast game bird; these are a few of our favorite things, when we're pairing rich California sparkling wine from Domaine Carneros. 2009 Iron Horse "Classic Vintage Brut" Sonoma County Sparkling Wine

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "An elegant mixture of 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Chardonnay, this classic Brut is aged four years en triage and was last disgorged on July 18, 2014. The dosage includes the winery’s Thomas Road Pinot Noir. Golden in color, it is inviting in complex layers of baked apple, pear, honey and graham cracker while offering a light, sophisticated feel on the palate." (12/2014) K&L Notes: Just released. The winery's note: "The most traditional of the Iron Horse Sparklings. A 'classic' 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Chardonnay, aged an average of four years on the yeast in the bottle. Won... Read More »

2010 Can Mayol Loxarel "Refugi" Reserva Brut Nature Penedes

Bottling under the trademarked name "Loxarel," Can Mayol is a winery that has been farming organically for more than a decade. The Mitjan family, owners of Can Mayol, also employ some biodynamic treatments. They keep animals, including chickens, a horse and a donkey named Garnatxa. While the focus is on "Brut Nature" (no dosage added) Cava production, they also produce some very interesting still wines as well. In their chalky, high altitude vineyards (above 2,400 feet for their highest vines, among the highest in the Penedès D.O.), Xarel-lo, Macabeo, Pa... Read More »

1998 Cornaleto Franciacorta Pas Dose

I remember when my salesman approached me on this wine, "Mate, have I got a wine for you and your Club!" he's English so he throws in the occasional Mate or Chap for us Colonials… He explained what he was pitching me, a Bone Dry, Italian sparkling wine that is 15 years old…..needless to say I was a bit circumspect. He continued saying that the wine was 70% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Bianco and had remained on the lees for 12 years. He's actually quite a serious fellow so I said let's pop the cork and see for ourselves, I was actually stunned... Read More »

1997 d'Yquem, Sauternes (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sensational Yquem, 1997 may be this estate's finest effort since 1990 (although I would not discount the 1996 turning out to be nearly as good). The 1997's light gold color is accompanied a gorgeous perfume of caramel, honeysuckle, peach, apricot, and smoky wood. Full-bodied and unctuously-textured, with good underlying acidity as well as loads of sweetness and glycerin, it looks to be a great vintage for this renowned Sauternes estate. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2055. (RP)" (4/2003)96 points Wine Spectator: "A pure style, with intense acacia, white peach, apricot, nectarine and ...Read More »

2005 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel sample. If you're looking for great, ripe black currant fruits, this is where to come. The wine is full and hugely fruity, but it still manages a good Bordeaux sense of proportion." (6/2006) James Halliday: "Smokiness dominates the nose at the moment but there’s still evidence of fresh and aromatic cassis underneath. Rich and yet juicy...Drink 2010-2016." (6/2007) Jancis Robinson: "Quite a rich nose and some farmyard elements. Solid and straightforward. Quite chewy tannins at present." (4/2006) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep ruby/purple with notes of sweet cherries intermixed with hints of espresso roast and drie ...Read More »

2006 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne Top Pick!
2006 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne

97 points James Suckling: "Deep pinot-driven presence is the first and lasting impression. Power with control. Superfine bead, bread and spiced biscuits, candied ripe red fruits and a sense of tight-knit complexity. Some grapefruit, lemon pith & gently flinty notes too - impressive nose. In the mouth it is rich, powerful, mouth-filling and flavoursome with a core of the same biscuity red fruit flavour, savoury nutty notes and a wrap of assertive, persistent acidity that holds rich powerful flavour deep and focused whilst maintaining a polished, gently creamy texture. Long chalky b ...Read More »

2001 Moulin Haut-Laroque, Fronsac

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A serious, tannic, deep ruby/purple-colored effort, the 2001 Moulin Haut-Laroque reveals excellent purity along with notes of smoke, earth, black currants, and weedy tobacco. Still firmly structured, it requires 1-3 years of cellaring, and should last for 10-12 years." (6/2004) Wine Spectator: "I like the vanilla, and berry character in this young red with silky tannins and a medium finish. Good wine for the vintage. (Web Only-2004)"

2005 Balestard La Tonnelle, St-Emilion Top Pick!
2005 Balestard La Tonnelle, St-Emilion

Jancis Robinson: "Fine perfume, becoming more meaty. Really moreish, dry and quite firm. Perhaps a little more structure than fruit." (11/2009) Wine & Spirits: "The aroma is complex and layered with rich cherries and smoky oak tones. This is a smooth-textured, traditional St-Emilion. A bit of bottling sulfur will dissipate as the wine ages, and the tannins will soften up for a steak." (10/2008) Wine Spectator: "Vanilla, licorice and violet aromas follow through to a medium-to-full body, with silky tannins and a medium finish. (Web-2008)" K&L Notes: Wow! This wine has really come around in the last few years. It was a bit ... Read More »
