The Monga Zin is named both for its immense (humongous) mouthful of flavors and for its southern California region of origin, Cucamonga Valley, home to many of California's oldest Zinfandel vineyards. The grapes come from the Lopez Vineyard and is 82 years old. The wine is aged in 34% new American oak barrels and 66% older French barrels, and it seems to be getting rounder and softer almost weekly! The fruit is hugely jammy raspberry with some lovely creamy milk chocolate, almost to a bit of caramel (milkduds, anyone?) in the finish. With 15.5% alcohol, this is a "humongous" wine indeed, but does not appear awkwardly hot or overtly alcoholic, just big and mouthfilling and easy to drink!
Below is a listing of the wine review scores we frequently reference in our notes. While these sources remain an excellent source of information, we always recommend that you trust your own palate. Scores in these publications often represent the personal taste of an individual critic, which may not always coincide with your own.
