Just across the Rhône river from the esteemed vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this 88-acre estate (named after the ruins of an 11th century castle) is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a UC Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking staff at Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe (in Châteauneuf-du-Pape). The 2001 is emblematic of the vintage---bold, ripe and rich, with tons of berry fruit and smooth, integrated tannin. 60% grenache, 15% cinsault, 15% carignan, 10% syrah.
