Domestic Wine
When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural regions within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows and glasses to be raised around the world. We've been selling domestic wines since 1976 and all three of our stores are located in California, so it's safe to say that this territory has a special place in our heart. Take a look...

93 points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Proprietary Red Wine Tapestry Reserve (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) is the finest example of this cuvee I have ever tasted. Flowery, licorice-infused, cassis notes intermixed with forest floor and lead pencil shavings are followed by a layered, impressively built wine with real opulence, lots of red and black fruits, low acidity, and lush tannin. It should drink well for 15+ years. " (12/09) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A terrific wine, delicious and classic in structure. Show... Read More »

It's fully drinkable now for the lightly silky texture, extreme dryness and tart flavors of cherries, cranberries, pomegranates and cola, which feel so elegant in structure. Yet there’s an inherent depth and balance that suggests ageability. Now-2013." Drink now through 2012." (02/10) A rich, buttery style Chardonnay that finishes creamy and fresh! Chateau Ste. Michelle seems to have the formula down for making crowd-pleasing wines that continue to get excellent ratings. Best of all the prices are extremely fair! (Trey Beffa, K&L Wine Merchants)

California winemaker Joel Gott is behind this cheapie wonder, and though we question the name, we have little doubt as to this Zinfandel's merits! Pick a berry, any berry, it's in there, along with a mouthfilling array of spices and warm, toasty notes that most of us associate with wines costing three times as much.

91 points and the top scored wine in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Fifty Super Domestic Wine Values:" "The sensational 2008 Chardonnay Central Coast, which is fermented and aged completely in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation, is a 30,000-cuvee of fabulous Chardonnay. Loads of tropical fruit, honeysuckle, and orange blossom notes fill the olfactory sense, as does the luscious medium-bodied texture on the palate. Possibly one of the hardest California wines to keep in stock, the Rombauer Chardonnay is THE Chardonnay that fans of the buttery, spicy, ripe and rich take on the varietal measure all other Chards against. In 2008, the wine doesn't falter - with tropical fruit tending toward pineapple and papaya and a creamy texture that just glides across the palate. Sure to sell out.

94 points Wine and Spirit Magazine: "The Flowers team blends this from their estate fruit grown on the far coast around Fort Ross with selected lots from vineyards in the Russian River Valley, consistently producing one of the most graceful pinot noirs in the New World. In 2007, the wine has a brisk, foresty scent, bright red fruit in the middle and delicacy to the tannic weave. Hints of black tea, pink grapefruit, cranberry and salt all contribute to the complexity. The flavors are saturated while the wine remains transparent. Completely satisfying, thi... Read More »

Made with a splash of Grenache, it’s full-bodied, bone dry and compelling in the intricacy of flavors. A "throwback" Zin. No jammy, sweet, mouthcoating flavors here. No searing alcohol. Just a rock solid Old World-styled Zin bursting with flavor. The 2008 vintage in Edna Valley was fantastic, and it shows on this bright, value-priced Chardonnay. Warm days, cool nights and steady but mild winds helped the grapes develop fully but slowly. Partial barrel fermentation, partial malo and extended lees contact give this wine an incredible texture with plenty of acidity to keep it food friendly. It tends toward the tropical, with pineapple, guava and peach aromas and flavors touched off by Tahitian vanilla, cinnamon and colve spice with a streak of minerality. A lot of complexity for a $10 bottle.
