A nice combination of New World elements (rich currant and blackberry fruit and nice ripeness) along with balancing elements of cigar box and pepper. The estate has 25 hectares of vines. Eighteen hectares are red varietals, cabernet sauvignon and merlot, and seven hectares are white. The 2005 Château Laubarit Bordeaux is even better than the very successful 2003 vintage that we featured in the club last year. It is rich and ripe like the 2003, but it has more depth of flavor, better balance and a longer finish. Fabulous vintage, great tasting and very affordable red. This is a rarely seen, and delicious blend of 60% Sauvignon Gris and 40% Sauvignon Blanc There is but one hectare (2.2 acres) of blancs planted at La Gatte, dating 1985. The Sauvignon Gris is pink in hue, has thick skins and gives great girth and body ; the Sauvignon Blanc lends much-needed aromatics. Dry, with nice acacia flower and delicate mineral nuances, this wine makes a wonderful aperitif drink or can hold up to all seafood dishes, white meats, sauces, smoked meats and saucisson. Montalon proudly holds the title as the 3rd highest vineyard in the entire Gironde department, at 86 meters above sea level. One of Ralph's favorites. 46% sauvignon blanc, 46% sauvignon gris and 8% muscadelle. Barrel-fermented and sur lies aged for 7-9 months. Here is a wine with the delicacy expected in white Bordeaux, but with good power and depth. The unusual addition of sauvignon gris adds to the aromatic intensity with notes of jasmine, mango and passion fruit. Toasty vanilla comes through nicely and adds to the long and delicate finish.
