This Grand Champagne Cognac from Ragnaud represents our dedicated efforts to find excellent Cognac without the use of an additional sweetners or traditional boise. Distiller Jean-Marie has spent the last thirty years perfecting his pot-still brandies into delicate expressions of the fantastic terroir in the area. He is a firm believer in the idea that the limestone-rich soils of Grande Champagne produce wines which, when distilled, create brandies capable of aging in barrel for eternity. While we originally came in search of single barrel Cognac, we t... Read More »

The Deret is a K&L Exclusive on the West Coast! Very Superior Cognac - Color: pale yellow. Nose: clear aroma of vine leaf and hints of tea. Slight overtones of oak. Palate: this young cognac is gentle on the palate with notes of apple and pear. An unusually long, round finish. The Vallet family is careful to bring out the distinctive regional characteristics in their brandies. While Deret Cognac is similar to the Château Montifaud line, the ageing and marriage of casks differ, creating distinctively rich and elegant cognacs without any bitterness or heav... Read More »

Special Price! This cognac is amber, almost golden yellow in color. Its subtle vanilla bouquet also has floral overtones of roses and violets, leading into hints of prunes and apricots. As the nose develops, aromas of apple and pear pastry appear. Pierre Ferrand Ambre is superbly balanced on the palate. The aromas found on the bouquet linger on the palate for several minutes. A very subtle, aromatic Grande Champagne Cognac.

One time price reduction for the Holidays. Price not guaranteed for product sold into the negative. Following a decade working in the London wine trade for Corney & Barrow, Berry Bros. & Rudd and then his own business, Dominic Park decided in the early 1990s to move to France and create a new cognac house. Maison Cognac Park was born to make straightforward, unadulterated cognacs presented in simple packaging. The Deret is a K&L Exclusive on the West Coast! I am thrilled that the Deret XO 30 year old Cognac is back in stock here at K & L Wine Merchants! I met the Vallet Family at Chateau Montifaud this past July on my business trip to France. They are a lovely family who believe whole heartedly in the art of making fantastic cognac. Because of our growing relationship with the Vallet Family, we are able to keep this phenomenal price on the Deret Cognacs. Currently, there are only a limited amount of cases available. We are hoping to have more arrive for ... Read More »

The Guillon-Painturaud family owns 18 hectares of Ugni Blanc located around one plot around the farm they have been living in since 1610. In the 1970s, they began bottling under their own name rather than selling to the big house producers and have never looked back since. Passing the distillation education from generation to generation, the family business is currently run by an energetic young woman named Line Guillon Painturaud, who has brought forth some fantastic brandies. The Dudognon family has produced cognac in the small town of Lignieres-Sonneville since 1776. This region is the heart of the famed Grande Champagne of Cognac. Spirits from this premier cru are especially renowned for their tremendous length. While many cognacs are laden with permitted additives (sugar, boisé, caramel), the only additive used in Dudognon Cognacs is water: because of this, their color is fairly light, their sweetness comes from only naturally concentrated fruit. The 10 year old reserve has notes of apple, toffee and spice. Soft texture... Read More »

The Beau family is one of the oldest artisinal Cognac distillers in the Segonzac, the heart of the Grande Champagne region. Samuel Beau started distilling in 1895, bottling and selling his brandies under his own name, which at that time was unusual. To this day, the Beau family still takes meticulous care of their 200 plus acres of Grande Champagne fruit, most of which is Ugni Blanc with a tiny fraction of Colombard. 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Something about this well-balanced liquid entrances, leading from sip to sip. Maybe it's the amber color, flecked with pretty orange and yellow highlights. Perhaps it's the complex aromas, which showcase sweet high notes reminiscent of dried fruit, toffee and Sauternes, or the warm, fruity flavor with a touch of almond extract. Whatever it is, pour a snifter and curl up by the fireplace." (12/10) Tasting age: 30 years old It has a very deep mahogany color. Tasting age: 20 years old The color is a deeper, brilliant, golden yellow. Pierre Ferrand Réserve has a lovely vanilla bouquet, with overtones of dried roses and apricot jam. Eye-catching topaz/honey color; dazzling purity. The opening smells include pears, apples, and soda water; additional air contact releases delicate, fruity scents of banana in brandy, cotton candy, maple, and new oak. The palate entry is light, sweet, and grapy ripe; the midpalate is chewier in texture, more honeyed in taste than the entry phase and tropical fruit-like. Finishes satiny smooth, sugary/piney sweet, and medium-long. Nice job. 3 Stars - Recommended - Spirit Journal - F. Paul Pacult 40% ABV

How can you beat this single vineyard Cognac from Grande Champagne! This Premier Cru Cognac comes from a 200 ha single vineyard that surrounds the Frapin Family Chateau. It is distilled, aged and bottled at the Chateau. This extremely expensive to produce single vintage cognac is one of the finest I've tasted from this exceptional estate. Frapin is one of the most under appreciated houses and is poised to make a real comeback. -David Girard, Spirits Buyer

Bronze/copper/ topaz color; ideal purity. This aroma owns a similar nut paste/oak sent as the Lot No. 53; with further air exposure, the bouquet takes on an orangy/citrusy leaning as the smell turns fruiter the more it aerates; lovely and compelling. The palate entry is supple, fruity sweet, and ripe; the midpalate stage highlights melded flavors of light caramel, marzipan, and nougat. Ends up oaky sweet, lightly spiced, and satiny. It is aged for between 20 and 30 years in red Limousin oak casks. This is a prime example of an 'extra-old' cognac. This XO cognac delivers a reference of what makes a great tasting fully mature XO. This phenomenal cask was selected from deep within the sacred paradis at the Tessendier family cellars and represents one of the most exciting finds during our trip. While it comes from one of the Cognac's negociantes, as opposed to the grower producers we're focusing on for our other bottlings, this series of single barrel bottlings will be a compelling statement about the direction of Cognac in the coming years. In cognac, four brands are responsible for 90% of all sales, leaving very little room for independents brands to operate and squeezing poten... Read More »

Comandon Cognac is one of the few independent houses of cognac that still controls and performs all aspects of its production in-house. Producers, growers, and distillers since 1880, the Tessendier family have been the producers of Comandon for many generations. The House of Comandon started its cognac business in 1821 by 20-year-old Pierre Comandon in the city of Jarnac which is considered the birthplace of the cognac. Later, it was managed by the Mitterrand’s family, made famous by Francois who was the President of France from 1981 to 1995. Tessendier... Read More »

Wine Enthusiast: "The youngest eau-de-vie in this legendary blend is 50 years old. 100% Grande Champagne. Amber color. Harmonious, hallmark bouquet of blue cheese-like rancio, truffles, roasted chestnuts and prunes; the aroma stays firm and concentrated through 10 minutes of nosing. This would make a beautiful gift for any cognac lover! Traditionally, spirits merchants shipped their cognacs in oak barrels and it was discovered that the cognac developed significantly during a long sea voyage. With the age of branding cognac started to be bottled at source for practical reasons. This meant that the benefits of the sea voyage disappeared as cognac does not mature once it is bottled. We now revive that old tradition by sending our Grande Champagne Cognacs on a three month sea voyage around the world. This voyage brings out the unique b... Read More »

Comandon's Cask Strength Borderies is bottled at a perfect 18 years old. It is definitely the most unique and unusual of the three casks from the exception Comandon line of Single Barrel Full Strength Cognac. Borderies is one of my favorite regions and is usually the least familiar for many amateurs and professionals a like. Each of Cognac's regions has an equal potential for quality, a distinction most producers would like you to ignore. Cognac regionality does not come from the quality of the distillate, but in its potential to age. While Grande Champagne is always touted as the finest Cognac has to offer, boasting the regions chalkiest soils, those eau-de-vie are best only after 35+ years of aging. We often see subpar Grande Champagne cognac sold before they're ready to drink. The resulting eau-de-vie must be adultered with oak extract, sugar, and caramel to make them... Read More »
