2011 Ancient Peaks Paso Robles Merlot
Review Date: 4-23-2014
One visit to the Ancient Peaks vineyards in Santa Margarita, and it becomes abundantly clear how special the land, the people and these wines truly are! Dark fruit and leather on the nose with hints of cacao, bay leaf and exotic spice. Texturally it offers richness, but finishes dry with fine silky tannins. Those of you who “don’t drink Merlot,” need to give this wine a try!

2012 Bishop's Peak San Luis Obispo County Pinot Noir
Review Date: 4-23-2014
Another great Bishop’s Peak Pinot! A core of lovely red fruit and some subtle savory notes, it maintains lovely texture and weight on the palate. Finishing dry, with balanced acidity and freshness on the back-end, this is one of the best Domestic sub-$20 Pinots in the store!

2011 Ancient Peaks Paso Robles Zinfandel
Review Date: 4-23-2014
One visit to the Ancient Peaks vineyards in Santa Margarita, and it becomes abundantly clear how special the land, the people and these wines truly are! The Ancient Peaks Zinfandel is marked by incredible fruit purity. Bright fresh strawberry and white pepper dominate these lifted aromatics. Textually it is ripe on the palate, but maintains enough acidity to keep it fresh. Absolutely delicious!

2011 Ancient Peaks Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 4-23-2014
One visit to the Ancient Peaks vineyards in Santa Margarita, and it becomes abundantly clear how special the land, the people and these wines truly are! Highly charming and expressive, it offers classic cab character of dark plumy fruit, cedar, bay leaf, and olive. Texturally this wine is juicy, but well framed by gentle tannin, acidity and mineral drive.

2011 Vina Robles "Red 4" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Review Date: 4-23-2014
The Vina Robles Red 4 offers a lot character for $15! Very reminiscent of a village-level Cote du Rhone, it bursts from the glass with notes of red fruit, casis, cedar, herbs and smoke. This wine has plenty of ripeness and concentration on the palate, but finishes dry and honest. This is a great wine to keep in mind as we head into the summer party season.

2012 Talley Estate Arroyo Grande Pinot Noir
Review Date: 4-23-2014
Incredible growers and equally skilled winemakers, the Talley family has crafted another wonderful Estate Pinot Noir! Aromatically it displays red fruit, floral notes and lovely spice. On the palate it exhibits concentration and richness, while maintaining a level of poise and polish that is quite pleasing. Though lovely now, a few years in the cellar are recommended.

2012 Talley Estate Arroyo Grande Chardonnay
Review Date: 4-23-2014
Talley continues to produce some of my favorite Chardonnays in California, and the 2012 Estate bottling is no exception. Texturally this Chardonnay displays great balance and refinement. The oak is well integrated, adding weight without becoming overtly rich. Maintaining lively focus throughout, the lovely citrus notes and mineral drive are on full display.

2009 Valserrano Crianza Rioja
Review Date: 4-15-2014
This is a great example of the generous quality the 2009 vintage will offer in Rioja. Achieving a wonderful balance of ripeness and structure, this Crianza offers aromas of bright red fruit with hints of rose, citrus and vanilla. The underlying sweet fruit is framed throughout by very precise acid and tannin. This is a very polished bottle of wine for $15, which you can drink over the next 3-5 years.

2001 Marques de Riscal "Baron de Chirel" Reserva Rioja

A tremendous reserva from a tremendous vintage. The level of poise and polish is one of the finest I have seen from the 2001 vintage. This is serious wine, for the serious Rioja collector!

2011 Suertes del Marqués "7 Fuentes" Valle de Orotava (Tenerife)
Review Date: 11-20-2013
I am a novice when it comes to the wines of the Canary Islands, but the 7 Fuentes has really piqued my interest and curiosity. This has been one of the most exciting wines I have tasted in the sub-$20 category all year! Aromatically it jumps from the glass with notes of bright red fruit, white pepper and roses. Texturally, it possesses a lovely softness and underlying sweetness of fruit. This wine maintains a lightness in body throughout, and finishes with an intriguing saline component which lends overall freshness and complexity. Unique in character, this is an incredibly delicious and versatile food wine that will make repeat appearances at our dinner table.

Franck Bonville Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Review Date: 10-26-2010
Made from all estate fruit from Bonville’s Grand Cru vineyards in Avize, this champagne displays ripe citrus and apple fruit on the nose, followed by a rich mid palate and a snappy mineral finish. The Bonville Prestige has everything I am looking for in a Blanc De Blancs at an extremely reasonable price!

1999 Lanessan, Haut-Médoc
Review Date: 6-19-2010
If you love classic Bordeaux at an affordable price, you need look no farther than Chateau Lannessan! Loads of dark plum on the nose with notes of cacao, tobacco leaf, and cedar. This wine has great texture and a ripe mid palate backed by solid acidity and fine tannins. It will certainly age for another few years, but is great now with an hour of decanting
