2012 Textbook "Mise en Place" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 3-11-2015
An excellent offering from Oakville's rocky soils. I have a feeling Textbook's "Mise en Place" will win a special place in the hearts of many a Cabernet lover because it hits all the right note - powerful and rich with enticing fruit and complexity. You just don't get all these qualities in every Cabernet. There's lots of blackberry fruit here, a broad textured mouthfeel, finely wrapped tannins and just a whiff of a roasted note on the finish. A word of advice, when you buy this, consider buying two. This wine has the stuffing to go the distance in the cellar, and years hence you'll be wishing you had another one.

2013 Riposte "The Dagger" Pinot Noir Adelaide Hills South Australia

Who knew sub-$20 Pinot Noir could taste this good? Cherry, vanilla, and just a hint of mint. A surefire crowd-pleaser that's perfect for your next dinner party.

2012 Pisa Range Estate "Black Poplar Block" Pinot Noir Central Otago
Review Date: 8-19-2014
From the world's southernmost winegrowing region comes an exceptional effort in Pinot Noir that is not to be missed. Violet, black cherry, plum, a hint of minerality, and an amazing texture. If you can keep your hands off it, this is a wine that will be doubly rewarding after a few years in the cellar. If you can't, give it a splash in a decanter, and then prepare to be impressed.

2012 Melville "Estate" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Review Date: 7-30-2014
Winemaker Greg Brewer consistently coaxes lovely aromatics from his wines; it's one of the reasons I like them so much. Right out of the gate scents of rose petals, lavender, and sweet earth beckon. On the palate this wine is beautifully plush with notes of black cherry, cinnamon, and just a touch of smoke. If you've never tried Melville Pinot Noir, you should. If you're already a fan, don't miss this one!
