Great wine from a unique grappe! Schiava (Vernatsch in Germany) is deep purple in color and has a blackberry flavor to it as well as a dusty quality. Enjoy with grilled pork chops...

Well made sparkling wine from the Loire. It has no dossage. You would expect something supper racy but you get a great texture and richness that was really tasty.

Once again I love this summer since we have all these great rosés! Yummy! This one is made from Cab Franc, and has a soft, mineral finish with really good acidity. Bright red fruit on the nose and palate.

A great gem from the Right Bank if you're looking for a wine to enjoy or put down for several years. One of the best I've tasted recently. This medium to full bodied wine has dark red cherries, plum and raspberries with just enough oak on the palate to make you wish you had a second opened bottle. Love it!

Made from 70-year-old Meunier vines, this is the perfect example of young Pinot Meunier. A great blend of peach flavors with undertones of yeasty earthiness. Awesome balance to be enjoyed by itself or with a more complex appetizer; meat skewer amuse bouche wouldn't be bad.

I had this Brunello at our customer tasting in Redwood City and was blown away by how appreciable it was. Soft, ripe, integrated tannins make it a great candidate for diner tonight. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

20% old vines. Sweet red fruit with a ripe core and great lenth. It has a very long, silky, mineral finish. Among the best wines of the vintage.

Again, how do you rate rosés? This one is lip-smacking good! It has a bit more body than a typical Provence rosé. Good ripe fruit on the nose with a nice clean/fresh finish that quenches the thirst. Mmmm. Drink over the summer.

1998 Lopez de Heredia "Viña Tondonia" Gran Reserva Rosado Rioja

This wine took a couple of days to open in the bottle so we left it open in our tasting bar. At first I wasn't a big fan (I thought the 1997 was much better) but after re-tasting it two days later - wow! The mustiness blew off and we had ourselves a great mature rosé. It still had nice acidity and the fruit started coming out; think lightly sweet-sour berries mixed with rhubarb. I'll admit this is not for everyone, but is truly unique and must be tried at least once in your life. Just keep an open mind and decant it.

Just tasted this in a line-up of $40+ wines and I have to say it was the best Pinot of the day. Good structure, very elegant fruit, nice sweeet core and finish that makes you want to go back. Really well made and, with the hot summer days on their way, this will be a BBQ favorite. The downside: we don't have a lot of it, so try it soon because before you know it, it will be all gone.

2004 Rocca di Montegrossi Chianti Classico "San Marcellino"

WOW!!! This is an awesome Chianti Classico. If you want the best value for the cellar to last over ten years YOU must get this wine. Great expression of Sangiovese. Only the second wine that I bought a full case of. Rich dark fruit that you must let it age to show it's true beauty but can, with several hours of decanting, show very well with any grilled meat you can throw on the BBQ.

I had this wine at Jardinière in the City. They had superbly paired it with a short rib and prime rib dish that was just awesome (the dish and the wine). I had no clue what this wine was to the extent I asked the sommelier to get me the importer's name so I could recommend it to our buyer, Joe Manekin, to get some for the store. To my surprise we already had it on the shelf!. This is a classic European wine that offers good fruit, great structure and is extremely well-balanced and, like I experienced in one of the finer restaurants of the city, goes very well with beef. I think if you want to have a fun experience with a truly unique wine from Portugal that isn’t over-oaked, this is a steal. I just couldn’t believe it was only $20 on the shelf. A steal at that price, I tell you.

Taurasi, Taurasi, Taurasi... You like them Big? You will love this Taurasi. A bit rustic on the nose but this wine is packed with a lot of dense dark fruit. Decant for hours and enjoy with lamb or any type of game. You could also keep it for the next 10-20 years.

What a value wine for $10. Dark, rich, ripe fruit with hints of cinnamon make this wine a great Tuesday nighter… If you like spicy wines you should try this Nerello Mascalese the next time you’re looking for something to pair with grilled sausages or, for that matter, anything from the grilled. Enjoy without breaking the bank.

Oh my god!!! Talk about "Aperitif" red... MMM! Nice fresh raspberry/cranberry, a little touch of spice, with just enough acidity to make this a great party starter. It’s so light on its feet that it could be a pool side sipper if it last long enough in the store. You probably might be tempted to pair it with bruschetta or a fruit salsa with a touch of heat...drink now.

2006 Domaine Chicotot Nuits-St-Georges (Was $40)
Review Date: 3-13-2009
WOW! This is an awesome Nuit-St-Georges. Chicotot is an "old school" producer but this has put on some nice body fat in the last six month, and I can only imagine over the next 5 years what will happen. Rustic bright cherry note with nice acidity makes this wine a keeper. It also displays freshness which also makes it enjoyable today with some decanting.

I still believe this is the best young Cantemerle I've ever tasted. I just re-tasted it at the UGC tasting in San Francisco in January 2009. Better then the '05, '03, or '00... Nice rich textured wine. I liked it so much it's one of only two wines I purchased on pre-arriva (the other was the Leoville Barton). Look for this wine to improve over the next 10-15 years.

I'm always a big fan of the Moulis AOC since it has great wines that are often left in the dark for the bigger named appellations. This 2006 Poujeaux is very elegant and somewhat mineral driven. It has great structure and is very well balanced.
