Elisabeth discovered wine (more specifically Frascati) at age 19 while studying in Rome, Italy. It was cheaper than mineral water and went better with penne all’arrabiata. This was the only dish she ate in Italy, which would seem to be a terrible waste, only it was always excellent and could be relied upon to never contain pancetta, guanciale or any other members of the exhaustive pork fat family. While living in San Francisco in her twenties, Elisabeth’s taste in wine and food broadened. As a frequenter of the Wine House, the Wine Club and K&L Wine Merchants, as well as tasting rooms throughout Sonoma and Napa valleys, she learned to love Alsatian whites, Rhone reds, California Zin and embarked on what was to become her life’s great work—to develop a truly encyclopedic knowledge of and appreciation for rosé. Joining K&L’s San Francisco team in 2004 (brian, is this correct?) was, to quote Dr. Phil, a changing day in her life. Brilliant co-workers and engaged customers, not to mention a wicked discount on already low-priced wine, quickly turned a hobby into a career. As K&L has yet to promote Elisabeth to the head rosé buyer position for which she is so obviously deserving, she currently bides her time working from home as web editor/writer, compiling tasting notes and scores for the thousands of wines currently available at K&L. On her off hours, Elisabeth enjoys feeding and dressing her twin baby boys, August and Leo, and sneaking her carnivorous golden-retriever-Tasmanian-devil mix, Marlowe, onto Long Beach’s eponymous shoreline.

2007 Benanti Bianco di Caselle
Review Date: 11-16-2009
Benanti is a frequent 3 Glass award winner from the Gambero Rosso. The 2007 Benanti Bianco di Caselle is
100% carricante, one of Mt. Etna’s native grapes. The aromas and flavors point to about a hundred different apple varieties, and the palate is long and crisply acidic. Try this Bianco alongside anything from the sea, especially fresh sardines.
Price: $16.99
2006 Benanti Rosso di Verzella
Review Date: 11-16-2009
The 2005 Benanti Rosso di Verzella is a different take on Nerello Mascalese, only this time in 40-year-old-vine form, which brings out a more minerally black fruit component. The ideal red for meatballs.
Price: $16.99
2004 Benanti Rovittello
Review Date: 11-16-2009
The 2004 Benanti Rovittello combines 80-year-old Nerello Mascalese with small amounts of equally old Nerello Cappuccio, another Mt. Etna original, to form this rich and full-of-backbone red. Gamey, rustic,
pretty and ripe, it tastes like nothing else on the
planet, and it deserves star treatment at your dinner
table. Break out the strip sirloin and enjoy!
Price: $34.99
2007 Corbera "Isola d'Oro" Inzolia IGT
Review Date: 11-16-2009
Native fruit is where it’s at on Mt. Etna, and
though the names of the grapes will be unfamiliar
to you, the value of Corbera’s red and white
wines will more than make up for their obscurity.
The 2007 Corbera “Isola d’Oro” Inzolia
IGT shows off the fresh and vibrant side
of this local white.
Price: $8.99
2007 Corbera "Isola d'Oro" Nerello Mascalese
Review Date: 11-16-2009
The value of Corbera’s red and white
wines will more than make up for their obscurity. The 2007 Corbera “Isola d’Oro” Nerello Mascalese IGT is
spicy and full of structure, though light in the
tannin department— a feisty little number that
belies its price. It's made for the
table, especially if the table is offering up one of
Sicily’s great additions to the world of pasta.
Price: $9.99
Baron Fuente Esprit Brut Champagne
Review Date: 1-29-2009
Like the Grande Reserve, it is very well-balanced, but it is aged longer, spending eight years on its lees! Also like the Grande Reserve, it is fermented in stainless steel. The big difference here is a blend of equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. There is a definite sourdough nose (perfect for San Franciscans and their famous bread!) with an elegant toastiness. In the mouth; it starts off rich and round with lovely nutty notes to contrast the underlying citrus fruits. The citrus takes
over on the finish and adds a nice zippiness to the overall richness of this Champagne.

Caveau du Mont July Bugey Cerdon Rosé
Review Date: 11-26-2008
This time of year, fattiness and frivolity have a way of going rampant on you, so it's nice to sip a fun, pink bubbly that is light on its feet (less than 9% alcohol). Grapey and off-dry, it is equally tasty served before a meal or after.

2003 Belle-Vue, Haut-Medoc
Review Date: 7-15-2008
This one is superb Bordeaux for near-term drinking. Along with opulent aromas of black cherry, preserves, antiques and cedar, all of which show openly in the mouth, it offers up a broad set of pure fruit characteristics, soft rounded tannins, and a finish that lingers on and on. Anderson says that this will be our other house red for August.
Price: $19.99
