2013 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 5-1-2014
98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot make up the 2013 Lafite blend. Though somewhat closed, the barrel sample showed upfront cedar, minerals and lead pencil flavors. The wine was balanced, with a dry finish. This is not a huge Lafite, but should be a good cellar candidate for the short to mid term. 91-93 points.

Pineapple, with nice balance. Will come together. Hard to taste now.

2011 Domaine de Chevalier, Pessac-Léognan
Review Date: 4-29-2014
Lots of perfume on the nose. Open, spicy and creamy on the mid-palate. Sweet, long and fresh. Medium-bodied. Lots of finesse. This is a natural wine, not overdone. 90-92 points.

2013 l'Evangile, Pomerol Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 4-29-2014
A blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc, the 2013 L’Evangile is a candidate for wine of the vintage in my book! Lush, and silky in the mouth with hints of cola, raspberries, vanilla spice, this wine has one of the longer finishes we tasted this year. Finesse and purity come to mind. 93-95 points.

2013 Phélan-Ségur, St-Estèphe Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 4-28-2014
Red cherry cola in nose, good upfront, bit soft and short on finish, flavors and tannins need time to come together but a solid wine for the vintage. 87-89 points.

2013 d'Armailhac, Pauillac Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 4-28-2014
This wine surprised us all. Spicy, ripe black cherry fruit, with hints of wet stone, minerals and licorice. It is balanced, long and well-structured. A solid effort! 90-92 points.

2013 Cantenac Brown, Margaux Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 4-28-2014
Ripe fruit in the nose, crushed raspberry and blackberries, very soft and juicy, bright crisp acidity, fresh, maybe a tad light in middle but really nice fruit! 88-90 points.

2013 Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge, Pessac-Léognan Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 4-28-2014
Excellent sweet core of fruit, surrounded by hints of minerals and earth, with a firm tannic finish. Enough sweet middle fruit to carry the tannins. Good wine! 90-92 points.

2011 Poujeaux, Moulis (1.5L)

Dark and chewy, with plenty of sweet fruit, cocoa and graphite in this mineral-driven wine. Good balance and fresh, ripe tannins.

2011 Fonplégade, St-Emilion
Review Date: 4-23-2014
Dark and inky in the mouth, graphite and slate, minerals sweet minerals. Still very tannic on the finish and big. Should age well--there is enough fruit to cellar. Great freshness.

2011 Pape Clément Blanc, Pessac-Léognan
Review Date: 4-22-2014
Stony, mineral-driven aromas, intense and concentrated. Powerful for a white, with great acid and focus. Not overdone. Fine, indeed.

2011 Clos l'Eglise, Pomerol
Review Date: 4-22-2014
Big, rich, thick texture, dense and full, quite open in the mouth. Still some aggressive tannins and hints of herbal components.

2011 Cantemerle, Haut-Médoc (1.5L)
Review Date: 4-15-2014
Great balance, sweet fruit, almost jammy plum and red fruits; minerals, lots of spice. Polished.

2011 Margaux, Margaux
Review Date: 2-25-2014
Sweet mocha upfront and fleshy fruit, seamless in the middle with a long finish. Lush, sweet and rich. From a very small crop. This is very approachable young. The tannins are silky, but the wine is quite serious. May be my favorite of the vintage.

Inky color, dark and toasty nose. This is very concentrated and layered, with tons of vanilla and spice. Definitely in a flashy style, but I like it. 90-92 points.
