I’ve been with K&L since summer 2007, moving to retail from a restaurant background. I love coming up with fun food and wine pairings! I tend to enjoy and review wines that convey something interesting about their region of origin, and I usually prefer subtle, savoury wines. That said, dessert wines are always a particular weakness of mine! Often my reviewed wines- aperitif, main course or pudding- will be from France, Germany, or Austria. You will also see me recommending heaps of beers- so if you always dreamed of having a personal beer sommelier you can sign up for that. My ideal beer is a crispy English session ale but I enjoy exploring many different styles, from Californian double IPAs to sour Belgian Gueuzes. I’m not a beer expert by any means but we have a great selection here at K&L and I’m having a great time working my way through - hope you can join me!

Franck Bonville "Belles Voyes" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Review Date: 4-9-2012
Get it while it lasts! Rich, creamy and delicious, this is a full bodied Champagne with the elegance and balance of a tight-rope walker. Smooth and voluptuous from cask-aging, intense and structured because of the age of the old vines. A K&L staff and customer favorite!
Price: $67.99
2009 Terzolo Teran Istria Croatia
Review Date: 3-19-2012
This wine was a revelation to me, my first from the Teran grape variety and a real eye-opener to the wonderful red wines of Istria. The color is dark, the flavor is ferrous and sanguine, salty and animal. Electric and vibrant on the finish, it is one of the few really mineral reds I've tried. The Terzolo Teran woke me up and should be tried by every lover of wines of character.
Price: $17.99
Marguet Pere et Fils "Cuvée Reserve" Brut Champagne
Review Date: 2-28-2012
Rich and toasty, this is a full bodied Champagne with heaps of toast and biscuity notes. Deliious and impressive!
Price: $34.99
2009 Mission Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Hawkes Bay
Review Date: 2-26-2012
This elegant cabernet really stood out at our recent staff tasting of antipodean wines. Brimming with cassis, slatey mineral and spiced plum aromas, the wine was silky, well proportioned and would make a fabulous accompaniment to a roast beef dinner.
Price: $19.99
2009 Ferrero Rosso di Montalcino
Review Date: 2-19-2012
This delicious "baby Brunello" is a great 100% sangiovese and is great with a plate of grilled meat! This wine has everything: vinous, red fruit, firm tannins and refreshing, food-friendly acidity- all for under $20!
Price: $15.99
Ariston Aspasie "Carte Blanche" Brut Champagne (375ml)
Review Date: 12-14-2011
Could this perfect half-bottle of Champagne be the perfect holiday morning gift?
Price: $15.99
2009 Hall Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 12-7-2011
Although quite young, and not yet generous on the nose, this wine is showing a lot of finesse with medium to rich body, smooth, cool damson and cocoa notes on the palate, and corduroy textured tannins.
Price: $39.99
Saint Cosme "Little James' Basket Press" Vin de Table
Review Date: 10-24-2011
Super tasty red blend for everyday. Heaps of juicy red fruit, no jamminess or oak weighing this one down, just vinous, friendly juice.
Price: $10.99
Chiyomusubi Nezumi Otoko Jungin Junmai Ginjo 180ml
Review Date: 8-13-2011
I especially love the shimmering pale gold sheen on this sake. Clean, creamy impression like coconut flesh, and a delicious long dry finish balance out the slight sweetness.
Price: $7.99
Poochi Poochi Sparkling Sake 300ml
Review Date: 8-13-2011
Delicious, refreshing sake with really minerally texture and a very modest degree of sweetness, with a nice dry finish. This is only 7.5% alcohol and is very enticing!
Price: $10.99
2003 d'Angludet, Margaux
Review Date: 8-10-2011
2003 was a vintage in France unlike any other, with a small harvest challenged by drought, extreme heat and storms. The estates such as Angludet who made wise winemaking and growing decisions produced outstanding wines with extreme richness of fruit and velvety dark concentration.
Price: $44.99
2005 Chantegrive, Graves
Review Date: 7-5-2011
This wine is really coming into a sumptuous drinking window with rich, mature fruit and showing an extraordinarily long finish. Delicious drinking over the next few years, and a great value.
Price: $19.99
Fleury Brut Rosé Champagne
Review Date: 6-18-2011
Serious, dry rose wine with tiny bubbles. Very taut and refined, with wild strawberry-type tartness and an amazing finish.
Price: $49.99
Deligeroy Cremant de Loire Brut
Review Date: 2-14-2011
Teeny tiny bubbles.. zippy, dry, crisp.. bubbly wine everyday?
Price: $11.99
Ariston Aspasie Brut Rosé Champagne
Review Date: 7-26-2010
This is a dry, richly textured rose champagne that at half the price of its more famous competitors shines as the more delicious glassful. Lovely salmon-tinted pink colour, cartloads of texture and length on the palate belie its affordability. This one gets an 'mmmmmm!'
Price: $32.99
