2010 Domaine Marchand-Freres Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru "Clos des Ormes"
Review Date: 4-10-2013
This is young but has so much potential. Loads of ripe cherry, mineral, spice and complex character. It is rich and unctuous on the palate. A real pleaser but wants to be cellared for a few years.

2002 Louis Lequin Santenay 1er Cru "Le Passe-Temps"
Review Date: 4-10-2013
This 2002 has reached its secondary stage of development, showing characteristics of leather, cigar box and smoky meats. It has lovely ripe cherry and strawberry compote flavors on the palate. The wine finishes long with tertiary notes of damp forest floor and loam. It's rare to get such a pristine example of a bottle aged wine from the winery at such a great price.

2009 Domaine Edmond Cornu Ladoix "Les Carrières"
Review Date: 4-10-2013
Cornu is definitely known as a more rustic producer but in a vintage like 2009, there is a supple sexiness that matches beautifully with the mineral and loamy richness in this wine. This parcel is very close to Corton and it drinks like baby Corton. Masculine power on the palate but a lot of sweet fruit there to balance. This is pretty awesome stuff.

2011 Domaine Desertaux-Ferrand Bourgogne Rouge
Review Date: 4-10-2013
What a terrific value! Loads of earth and spice aromas. There is plenty of red raspberry fruit to keep it fun and inviting. Classic Bourgogne Rouge.

2009 Louis Lequin Bourgogne Rouge
Review Date: 4-10-2013
Pretty big wine for a Bourgogne Rouge. This has loads of red fruit flavors including cherry and raspberry. There are also great aromas of cinnamon, nutmet and clove, especially on the finish. Terrific for the price and built to last a few years.

2009 Domaine Henri Prudhon St. Aubin 1er Cru "En Remilly"
Review Date: 4-10-2013
Full of ripe apple, orange blossom and vanilla creamsicle aromas. Beautiful weight and vibrant acidity round out this wine. It is very good now, but two or three years down and it will be truly special.

2012 Hermanos Torrontés Cafayate Valley Salta
Review Date: 3-27-2013
Salta is the premier growing region for Torrontes, producing more vibrant wines than its neighbors, Mendoza and La Rioja. The Hermanos crackles with minerality and fruit. Apple blossom, pear and mandarin orange aromas leap out of the glass. Think of Condrieu/Viognier without the cloying overt aromatics that can be taxing on the nose. This is one of the few Torrontes that I want to go back for multiple glasses of. Great as an aperitif but even better with Indian food!

2010 Calcu Cabernet Franc Colchagua Valley
Review Date: 3-27-2013
Who would have thought you would get such a clean concise version of Cabernet Franc from Chile. Great cherry and tapenade flavors with a hint of herb. Colchagua may be the Loire Valley of South America.

2011 Bollig Lehnert Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese
Review Date: 2-19-2013
The 2011 vintage really sings through with a rich texture and brightness of tone. The fruit has notes of pineapple and mango and is surrounded by a mineral framework. This is immediately approachable but has the stuffing to last for a few more years. Perfect with Thai food.

2010 Zolo "Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza
Review Date: 2-6-2013
In a region where Malbec is king, Cabernet almost always comes off as an afterthought. Not for lack of trying, Argentina has planted more cabernet in the last few years than any other grape. It always feels like something just hasn't connected though. Finally, we now have the Zolo Reserve which puts the varietal front and center with beautifully clean and balanced fruit. It is rich with currant flavors and blackberry notes. Not flush with oak but merely an accent point and the wine is never over the top. The Zolo proves that Argentine Cabernet is no longer cousin Oliver but a full fledged member of the family (apologies for the obscure Brady Bunch reference).

2005 Bodegas Muga "Prado Enea" Gran Reserva Rioja
Review Date: 2-6-2013
The Prado Enea is the most traditional bottling Muga produces and it is always my favorite. The 2005 is no slouch with a sleek mouthfeel, dark current flavors, toasted sage aromas and a hint of burnished leather. This is a touch more extroverted than the 2004 and that is fine by me. Approachable now or cellar worthy for many years to come.

2010 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza
Review Date: 12-4-2012
This is was an excellent surprise. Very balanced cabernet with currant and blackberry flavors. It is supple and well rounded. A great option for fans of domestic cabernet who don't want to pay twice the price for something at this quality level.

2010 Luke Lambert Syrah Yarra Valley
Review Date: 12-4-2012
A refined styled Aussie syrah. More like northern Rhone with loads of spice and mineral. A little atypical of what we think of with Australian Shiraz but that makes is that much more amazing.

2011 Andrew Thomas "Braemore" Sémillon Hunter Valley
Review Date: 12-4-2012
One of the top producers of Semillon in the Hunter Valley. Steely and nervy, with lots of citrus and mineral notes. One of my favorite white wines right now.

2001 Marques de Legarda Gran Reserva Rioja
Review Date: 12-3-2012
One of the most interesting wineries I have ever visited. The winery dates back to 14th century. The 2001 Gran Reserva is classic Rioja through and through with subtle herb spices and nuances, dried cranberries and figs, hint of rosemary and an earthy complex finish. We had this served with the Spanish equivalent of Guinea Hen over rice but you could serve this with any fowl and be a pretty happy camper.
