2013 Suduiraut, Sauternes Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 4-28-2014
Very rich and powerful, golden and honeyed, with lots of candied orange and caramel.

2013 Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge, Pessac-Léognan Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 4-28-2014
Displays nice minerality, large-scaled; there's good deep dark berry fruit along with tell-tale signs of black licorice and tar. Goes back to a style seen in 2003-2008 wines.

2013 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 4-28-2014
Lots of red fruit here, hints of cinnamon and some subtle spice notes, there are some noticeable tannins here.

2011 Poujeaux, Moulis (1.5L)
Review Date: 4-23-2014
Easily the best wine to come out of Moulis, Poujeaux has a very distinctive style. Black licorice and black cherry, with hints of herbs. This wine also has layers of fruit and a nice, long finish.

2011 Fonplégade, St-Emilion

This is an up-and-coming property. They have a new rich American owner and a great young director in Jean-Christophe Meyrou, and with the help of famed oenologist Michel Rolland some great things are happening here. Besides being an incredible value, it is also one of the best wines we tasted on our entire trip. Black raspberry, plum, spice and red berry fruit, all perfectly integrated. Noticeable tannins, but layered and integrated well. Very tasty and racy; this wine is so sleek and seductive it feels like a super model.

2011 Cantemerle, Haut-Médoc (1.5L)

Along with La Lagune, this property stands out for being a perennial value and a top producer from its commune.

2011 Lanessan, Haut-Médoc

This is one of the great classics as far as values go-always good and dependable. It has a racy nose with hints of herbs, flowers and loads of red fruits. Nice creaminess. This is classic.

2012 Château Pesquié "Le Paradou" Grenache Vin de France

The search for the perfect everyday drinking wine has ended! The 2012 Le Paradou is flat-out delicious! The very first sniff from the glass tells you this is going to be a highly enjoyable glass of wine with aromas of black pepper, plum, baking spices and hints of fresh flowers. The palate is a gorgeous array of black cherry cola, raspberry and herbs with great balance. This wine feels vibrantly alive, with its lively acidity framing the bright fruit flavors. The wine is incredibly versatile: it has enough fruit and body to easily be enjoyed on its own but has the structure and depth to seamlessly pair with most cuisines. This is one of the better values I have tasted this year and I will be sure to pick up at least a few bottles for myself!

Loaded with dark, dark red berry fruit-raspberries, cream and cranberry. Really deep and powerful, layered and sexy, with great energy.

Easily the best wine to come out of Moulis, Poujeaux has a very distinctive style. Black licorice and black cherry, with hints of herbs. This wine also has layers of fruit and a nice, long finish.

2010 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux

Seamless and plush, with hints of chocolate and mint on the nose and chocolate-covered cherry flavors on the palate. This wine is hedonistic, sexy and tough to spit out.

Impressive balance, pretty bright red fruits and lots of complexity. A super sleeper.

There are some wines that, from the very moment they hit your glass, make it known that you’re in for a treat. The 2010 Sbragia “Gamble Ranch” Napa Valley Chardonnay is one such wine. Golden-hued in the glass with seductive aromas of butter pecan, lemon chiffon and tropical fruit aromas which quickly give way to a palate full of lemon meringue pie, golden delicious apples, hazelnut and clove flavors. The wine has a silky texture, good acidity and a harmonious finish. This is a flat-out delicious Chardonnay that is currently hitting on all cylinders.

2009 Sbragia "Wall Vineyard" Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon

The third wine in a trio of single-vineyard 2009 Cabernet Sauvignons from Sbragia, the 2009 Sbragia “Wall Vineyard” Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon is a structured, broad-shouldered Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of chocolate-covered cherries, mocha, caramel and tobacco. The palate is dark and brooding, with flavors of plum, eucalyptus, blackberry liqueur and notes of crushed rock and baking chocolate. The wine is supple, with a finish that echoes the palate, and it slowly dissipates on the tongue.

2011 Cambria "Katherine's Vineyard" Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay

What makes the ideal Chardonnay? For me it has to have notes of exotic tropical fruits, good acidity and verve and lastly a nice touch of rich oak that helps to frame the wine but does not overwhelm the fruit and spice characteristics of the wine. The 2011 Cambria “Katherine’s Vineyard” Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay is just that wine: gorgeous fruit, just the right amount of acid and a rich, buttery hint of oak on the finish-just what you want in an everyday drinking Chardonnay.
