2011 Talley Estate Arroyo Grande Pinot Noir
Review Date: 5-23-2013
This delicious Pinot is a combination of 85% Rincon and 15% Rosemary’s vineyards, Talley two famous estate blocks. Pretty and full of spice cake/ginger bread aromatics and bold, expanse flavors of cassis, fennel and tar this is very complete for such a young wine. I love the way this wine unravels and rolls over the palate giving you everything it’s got. Talley nailed this one.

This is an elegant Chardonnay at a great price! Pretty aromatics of white flowers and a touch of citrus made me intrigued without even taking a sip. The floral and soft citrus notes follow through on the palate with a slight toasty oak, but very well integrated. The mouthfeel is delightfully creamy and smooth. Pair this Chardonnay with a roasted chicken tonight!

2012 Geyser Peak Sauvignon Blanc
Review Date: 5-23-2013
I always think of Geyser Peak Sauvignon Blancs being chock full of bright citrus fruit but I was more than pleasantly surprised when I tasted the 2012 to find some beautiful tropical and melon notes. Paired with a fuller than expected palate, this clean, crisp white is the ideal wine to enjoy all summer long.

2011 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac Pre-Arrival
Review Date: 5-23-2013
Spicy, almost exotic mocha aromas in the glass. Dark chocolate, fleshy mid-palate fruit and a velvety texture. This wine is sexy and long-definitely an earlier drinker. This wine should show well on release; it tastes pretty good now. 93-95 points.

2011 Balletto Estate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Review Date: 5-22-2013
This is a great find for Pinot lovers not already familiar with Balletto's tradition of crafting fine elegant wines. Not quite as rich and full as many Pinots from Russian River but very nuanced and layered with a great core of dark cherry fruit that is persistant and dry. This is very well priced for Pinot Noir of this quality.

2012 Geyser Peak Sauvignon Blanc
Review Date: 5-22-2013
Well I have to be honest...usually a California Sauv Blanc for under $8 is hard pressed to be drinkable, innocuous at best. But when I tasted the 2012 Geyser Peak SB I was very pleasantly surprised! It has a wonderful intensity to it. Lots of bright aromatics, crispy, great core of acid and citrus notes with a clean and fresh finish. Super Value here!!!

A delicious little everyday Pinot. This wine really restored my faith in sub $15 California Pinot. Great purity of fruit, good weight on the palate without being over extracted. A little hint of baking spices on the finish gives lift and complexity way beyond its surprisingly low price point! Quaffable Pinot that you can afford to drink every night or break out at a party. Cheers!

2009 Au Bon Climat "Talley Vineyard-Santa Barbara Historic Vineyards Collection" San Luis Obispo County Chardonnay
| Public Pending Approval
Review Date: 5-22-2013
An exceptional release from Au Bon Climat. I have long been a fan of Jim's wines for their refreshingly high acidity, focus and restraint when compared with the seemingly ever growing number of super oaky buttery chards out there. This release is one of the best I have come across from Au Bon Climat. It is perfectly poised and elegant on the palate. Nice ripe orchard fruits, some raw almond turning more toasted hazelnut. A lingering mineral content shines on the finish which is very precise and clean. A complex and superbly elegant chardonnay.

2009 Au Bon Climat "Talley Vineyard-Santa Barbara Historic Vineyards Collection" San Luis Obispo County Chardonnay
Review Date: 5-22-2013
Here's a chance to try one of the great ABC Chards that you normally can find only at the winery. It has a lovely bright nose showing the more elegant side of Chardonnay, with lovely peach notes mingled with white flower aromas. On the palate you get a great balance of juicy white peach fruits, soft and modest oak treatment and bright acidity. This is an extremely lovely and uncommonly balanced version showing the best of the varietal and the best of the new world's ability with it. Delicious!

2011 Kenneth Volk "Jaybird" Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay

Review Date: 5-22-2013
A great rendition of Unoaked Chard. This wine has good brightness and freshness combined with some nice weight and texture from some healthy lees stirring. Crisp apple and ripe pear combine with some grainy, malty notes. The acidity is apparent but rounded off and not abrasive like some stainless chards. A very well thought out wine that is sure to please those who don't go for the big butter bombs.

2011 Balletto Estate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Review Date: 5-22-2013
This Pinot Noir has aromas of parched earth and spice in a warm, close fashion, which nicely accents the natural cherry fruit. Supple in texture, with feathery tannins, on the palate the sweet cherry fruit picks up intensity without any heaviness, and carries through to a finish of good length, which likewise demonstrates a pleasing transparency of flavor. All in all, an excellent example of a taut, well proportioned Russian River Pinot Noir!

2010 Maison Jacques Bavard Auxey-Duresses "Les Clous"
Review Date: 5-22-2013
The balanced, nuanced and reliable wines of Maison Jacques Bavard have generated a passionate following with our customers, exhibiting both freshness, pronounced power and finesse, as this impressive Chardonnay from the tiny commune of Auxey-Duresses attests. Grown on slopes fairly adjacent to Meursault, it reflects pale yellow hues, releasing floral, almond and patisserie aromas with a well-defined, elegant palate, vibrant acidity and satisfying length. Everything and more, a substantial wine at roughly half the price of its famed neighbor to the southeast.

2011 Balletto Estate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Review Date: 5-22-2013
Balletto is a winery that we have carried regularly in our San Francisco store over the last few years. John Balletto began as one of the regions largest vegetable farmer's but in 1999 decided to move the company business towards grape growing. The Balletto Family has over 500 acres in the Russian River Valley and selects 10% from many different clones and soil types to make their wine. The 2011 Estate Pinot Noir continues a great run of excellent wines from this winery. Light and fresh red and blue fruit with hints of cedar, rhubarb, cinnamon and vanilla give it a lovely complexity.A beautiful example of Russian River excellence.
