2010 Hirsch "San Andreas Fault" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Review Date: 3-6-2013
Aren't you lucky to be an Insider member? At $60.00 per bottle, this is one of the top 5 Pinot Noirs made in the United States. At this price, you can't get any better. This is a cool climate Pinot, with lean cherry fruit, cinnamon, oak spice and great mineral notes throughout. 2010 is the first for new winemaker Ross Cobb. He has taken an already stellar Pinot producer and added even more complexity and vibrancy. He is a welcome addition to the Hirsch team and I'm sure there is more great wine to come. This wine will be better in 3-5 years and hold for 10. If you want to drink it now, decant for a couple hours.
2009 Priest Ranch "Somerston Vineyards" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 1-15-2013
This 2009 Cabernet is a real charmer. Rich dark red and blue fruit with hints of vanilla, cedar, chocolate and licorice. A big wine but not over the top. Structure and tannin give it a nice balance. I would drink it over the next 5 years. This wine is made by Craig Becker, winemaker at several wineries in addition to Somerston and the skill of the man is unmistakable.
2009 Yamhill Valley Vineyards Estate Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
Review Date: 11-19-2012
Reasonably priced/High Quality Pinot Noir is hard to find these days. The Yamhill Valley Vineyards price to quality ratio is second to none. Yamhill Valley Vineyards is not found in California all that often but is very well known in the Pacific Northwest. The Estate Pinot Noir is aged 20 months in used French and Oregon barrels. Medium bodied with bright red fruit with amazing layers of cinnamon, forest floor and clove. The wine has a great balance of bright fruit and acidity. With the holidays here, this is a great wine for meals and parties.
Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Réserve Champagne
Review Date: 12-28-2011
This champagne house has always produced quality, easy sipping champagne. Ripe apple and pear with a hint of yeast. A great glass.
Deligeroy Cremant de Loire Brut
Review Date: 5-22-2011
A delightful sparkler for $ 11.99. Chenin Blanc and chardonnay combine for lovely aromatics and lovely freshness on the palate. A treat for the price.
Marguet Pere et Fils "Cuvée Reserve" Brut Champagne
Review Date: 12-13-2010
I tend to lean towards the Blanc de Blanc champagne but when I'm looking for a sparkler with a bit of muscle I alway look to Marguet. Nice pinot fruit flavors with hints of yeast and toast. Beautiful!
