2008 Ancestral Xarel-lo Brut Penedes

Fermented in chestnut barrels (hello cool!) and then spends 2 years on its lees in bottle before release. Apple, mineral, chalk, lees/toast and saline. Medium plus acidity, well-balanced with fine bubble structure. Really, really tasty!

2008 Trapiche "Vina Coletto" Malbec Tupungato
Review Date: 4-1-2013
From one of the oldest wineries in Argentina, still family owned. Showing bottle notes of stewed cherry, red plum, bits of cassis, rich, ripe, medium plus tannin & medium plus acid. Well-balanced, elegant and a great transition for folks wanting to try new varietals who might be very used to Californian fruit. Fun!

2010 Catena Zapata "Catena Alta" Chardonnay Mendoza

2001 Qupe "Bien Nacido Vineyard Hillside Estate" Santa Maria Valley Syrah
Review Date: 4-1-2013
Boy oh boy, oh boy is this Syrah AMAZING! A few of us were recently treated to lunch at the Qupe/Au Bon Climat winery, and winemaker Bob Lindquist made sure that this wine was a featured part of the meal. I fell head over heels for it, enjoying it with roasted ham, a red quinoa salad and various cheeses. When Bob brought the bottle to our recent Friday night tasting, I was yet again impressed at how well the wine was showing. If you are looking for a really special bottle of domestic syrah, this is it! Stewed red cherry, sandalwood, hints of bacon and leather, with medium plus acidity (yes, at 12 years old! Such bright, fresh fruit!) and medium plus tannin. Well-balanced, beautiful integration, and clear excellence in winemaking. We bought this directly from Qupe, so get as much as you can fast!

2009 Palmina "Undici" Santa Barbara County Sangiovese
Review Date: 4-1-2013
Sourced from fruit from the Fiore vineyard, this 100% Sangiovese is pretty special. "Undici" means Eleven in Italian. Pretty red cherry, roses, sandalwood, with a soft subtley that classic sangiovese expresses. Medium plus acidity and medium plus tannin. A fun expression of a classic!

2010 Palmina "Lumina" Santa Maria Valley Sparkling Nebbiolo Rosé
Review Date: 4-1-2013
Okay, I will admit it outright. I begged our Domestic Buyer Brian Brick to buy this wine when we visited Palmina a few weeks ago. I fell HEAD over heels for this sparkling Nebbiolo rose. I mean, I fell HARD. I could drink this bubbly every day for the rest of my life and be completely happy. Red roses, red cherry, raspberry, strawberry, mineral with medium plus acidity, fine bubble structure and ridiculously easy to drink. Worth the splurge- very special. DELICIOUS!!!

2011 Loring "Rosella's Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Review Date: 3-26-2013
Red cherry, red roses, red currant, raspberry with a medium acid and tannin, the Rosella's is pretty, easy and softly sweet and drinkable.

2011 Loring "Garys' Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Review Date: 3-26-2013
Pisoni clone Pinot Noir shows flashy and ripe here in Loring's Gary's Vineyard. Black currant, cassis, raspberry with considerable richness and heft. Medium plus tannin and medium acid. Love Pisoni Pinot Noir? Try this on for size!

2011 Loring "Durell Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Review Date: 3-26-2013
Love Rombauer? You MUST try Loring's Durell Chardonnay! This puppy is all creme brulee, sweet, buttery richness with medium acidity. Winemaker Brian Loring is vocally unapologetic about his love of big, fat, huge Chardonnay and this wine does not disappoint!

2010 Melville "Estate" Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Review Date: 3-26-2013
Owner Chris Melville's mission is "to bring the vineyard to the glass", and he has accomplished it for certain with the Estate Pinot Noir. This wine is a blend of all of the Pinot Noir blocks on the Estate, which includes all 16 clones and every soil type! 30% whole cluster fermentation lends depth and character to this wine. All pure bright fruit here! Red cherry, raspberry, bright strawberry, with hints of savory dried herbs from stem inclusion in fermentation. Medium plus acidity and medium plus tannin. Very easy, drinkable and delicious!

2011 Melville "Estate-Verna's" Santa Barbara County Syrah
Review Date: 3-26-2013
30% whole cluster fermentation is evident here- a perfumey, lavender, blackberry nose, with white pepper, blueberry, and an interesting asphalty/tar note. Medium plus acidity and medium tannin. Aged in neutral barrel, this is a great example of cool climate Syrah.

2010 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel Rouge" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Review Date: 3-26-2013
Pretty black currant, cassis, blackberry, vanilla & blueberry with a meaty, savory, spicy edge. Medium plus acidty & medium plus tannin- a cellar worthy candidate to be sure. Always mainly Mourvedre, the Esprit de Beaucastel is the flagship red of Tablas Creek. 45% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache Noir, 21% Syrah, 4% Counoise.
