2013 Michel Delhommeau "Harmonie" Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie
Review Date: 9-3-2014
Dynamite bottle of Muscadet here! Light, lively, and fresh as a spring breeze, the 2013 Harmonie has flavors of lemon, lime, and blossom, with just a suggestion of sweetness to them, and enough body to keep everything from seeming austere when the chalky, wet stone, borderline-saline finish kicks in.

Rocks. So much truth lies in rocks. And these particular ancient volcanic rocks named for a famous Swedish actress (or haven't you ever heard of Greta...Gabbro?), when married harmoniously to the right vines and gently cultivated sensibilities of a magnificent winemaking couple, will turn out splendid, finely-cut wines like the Harmonie, aptly named for both the lovely, leesy richness and tropical fruits that embrace and embellish the palate. These have always been personal favorites and I look forward to their return year after year after year. Enjoy!

2012 Oakridge Single Vineyard Series "Oakridge/Whitsend Vineyard" Shiraz Yarra Valley   | Public Pending Approval
Review Date: 9-3-2014
A Shiraz that will leave you wondering why they didn’t label it Syrah. A very classic expression of cold weather Syrah such as Northern Rhone. Full of baking spices, black pepper, blood orange and a slightly vegetal palate of carrots and tomatoes. An outstanding, complex Shiraz out of the Yarra Valley, very impressive!

Oysters, clams, ceviche!!! This Riesling is perfect for any fresh or raw seafood! The nose of that classic petrol but the palate provides bracing acidity and salinity, a perfect crisp, dry Riesling for seafood.

2013 Pascal Janvier "Cuvée du Rosier" Coteaux du Loir Rouge   | Public Pending Approval
Review Date: 9-3-2014
An absolutely spectacular expression of Pineau d'Aunis. Extremely terroir-driven; you can taste the forest in this wine. An elegant nose of eucalyptus, tea leaf and cranberry. The palate is well balanced and delicate, yet powerful with flavors of forest floor, cedar, black liquorice, and crunchy, brambly fruits.

2012 Domaine les Grands Bois "Cuvée Maximilien" Côtes du Rhône-Villages Cairanne
Review Date: 9-3-2014
Grands Bois is one of my favorite producers in the southern Rhone and one of the best producers making a Villages level Cairanne. The "Cuvee Max" has a saturated color with layers of black raspberry, violets, Moroccan spices and fresh tilled earth. This is really well balanced, never too overt or heady. The alcohol never dominates and the finish is clean. I would pick up a few bottles, because as accessible as this is now, you'll want to discover a few in your cellar in a couple of years.

2013 Eric Cottat Sancerre
Review Date: 9-3-2014
Crunchy, not sweet, notes of melon meet up with tarragon, and gravel, in the 2013 Cottat. There is a nice sunny depth to the fruit on the palate, which is not as coolly green as some Sancerres, having more an accent of fresh herb, and with loads of energy underneath it all. Dusty gravel pops up again in the finish, just the way you want it to.

2013 Michel Delhommeau "Symbiose" Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie
Review Date: 9-3-2014
Broader and deeper than its sibling, the Symbiose is full, round, and juicy, but not at all heavy. The flavors of wet, creek-side cobbles, lemon, and a hint of tomato leaf here have a pleasing transparency, thanks to a mouthwatering level of cleansing acidity. I imagine this will even improve given a little time to settle into itself.

Richer and deeper than its "Harmonie" counterpart, this is still classic, racy Muscadet. Pear, apple, mineral and citrus with medium plus acidity. Yum!

Every time I taste these magnificent Muscadets from Michel Delhommeau I cannot but reflect upon the manifest destiny of the wondrous grape- Melon de Bourgogne, from which they're created. Although it originated in Burgundy, it eventually managed to migrate, swim or magically rediscover its true and lasting home beside the rapturous sea in Muscadet. Imbued with sublime, effortlessly clean, lime pith and minerally-precise flavors, the Symbiose is a slightly weightier, glycerin-textured, richer companion to the excellent Harmonie. Remember, don't be shellfish, and share it with special friends!

2013 Eric Cottat Sancerre
Review Date: 9-3-2014
Once knew a very fine fisherman who generously invited us over for fresh-caught salmon, so fresh in fact that it tasted like it leapt from the cold Pacific waters right onto the hot coals. Looking back, I wish I'd had of bottle or two of this beautifully-delineated, expressively-textured, citrus and mineral-enhanced Sancerre at the time to complement the astronomically-gastronomic flavors of the grilled salmon. What a feast!

I was really surprised by the purity of this Tequila's aromatics. They are precise and focused in a world where muddled can be a frequent occurrence. While having that preciseness in the nose it is extraordinarily smooth on the palate-- in Tequila, it seems to me, you usually get one or the other. Major kudos for a big name to make a really exciting high end product that isn't merely a marketing extension of the price range!
