2012 Ermacora Friulano Colli Orientali del Friuli
Review Date: 3-20-2014
One of our BEST VALUE wines at K & L’s! As most of you know this wine from past vintages and it’s been too long since we had this wine in a let me just put it plain and simple IT ROCKS! This “Friulano” is full body ( a little crisper than past vintages) with ripe pear and red apple on the palate and on the very long finish I find a hint of almond, balanced with crisp acidity and is very aromatic with great length. This will work great with a cornucopia of vegetarian dishes.

2010 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva
Review Date: 3-10-2014
I met Fabrizio Bianchi from Monsanto in the early eighties and have been a fan and follower ever since. Mr. Bianchi is certainly one of the earliest pioneers in trying to change the image of Chianti as well as the grapes involved. Fabrizio is a big believer in Sangiovese, the main grape in Chianti and the backbone of most Tuscan wines. He was one of the first in Chianti to make wines 100% Sangiovese in the early '70s. The terroir of this region is evident and expressed consistently, spicy, mineral laden, complex fruits and good acidity. I love this 2010, but be warned! It will go quick!

2008 La Velona Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 2-21-2014
I gave this two stars: A beautifully layered, expressive wine bursting with sweet, ripe strawberries and black cherries intermingled with subtle earth and toasted oak notes, minerals and a hint of dark chocolate on the finish; round and ripe tannins and a long aftertaste. Decant for about an hour.

Daniel Ginsburg "Grande Reserve Sous Bois" Brut Champagne
Review Date: 2-4-2014
Big & rich of the palate, yeasty and toasty, a full-bodied Champagne that finishes dry, but has great length.

2009 Viña Eguía Reserva Rioja
Review Date: 2-4-2014
There is plenty of fruit, good acidity, soft tannin structure, some minerality and a lengthy finish. The combination of blue/dark fruit and the black cherry comes from the Tempranillo. I also find some tar and roses on the lengthy finish.

2009 Cantine Ascheri Barolo
Review Date: 12-19-2013
This wine brings it with aromas of dried cherry and roses. On the palate you will find raspberries, tar, tobacco, truffle and a little Piedmont dust, with a good tannin structure. I love the elegance and varietal purity of this Barolo. I recommended decanting it for an hour or so, and think it would show best with mushroom risotto or a tri-tip.

2009 Damilano "Lecinquevigne" Barolo
Review Date: 11-7-2013
Deep red with ruby tones. Aromas of marzipan, brown spices, dried rose and truffle. Suave and sweet, with a liqueur-like ripeness to the flavors of red fruits, marzipan, brown spices, menthol and leather. Nicely integrated acidity accentuates the wine's inner-mouth perfume and contributes to an impression of firm structure. Love this Barolo, drink now and over the next few years.

2011 Cantina Terlan "Vorberg" Pinot Bianco Riserva
Review Date: 10-25-2013
This is from a hillside in the town of Terlano in the Alto Adige where the soil is sandy, gravely and calcareous. A great place to plant grapes? This is what makes this so unique and the wines of this region unique as well. This Pinot Bianco is full-bodied, delicately fragrant and mildly floral, ripe honeydew melon and bartlett pear and lots of minerality balanced with acidity this can keep very easily over the next 5 years. A Great wine to serve for the winter holidays

2008 Baricci Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 10-25-2013
This wine is from this extraordinary portion of Montalcino's most famous single vineyard "Montosoli" and is full of black cherry, cinnamon, anise cardamom, and leather, spicy, gamey, full of what I call sweet earth, (that Montalcino, dusty mineality) a more rustic wine than the one above. I would give this at least three to four hours of breathing time and could possible see its tenth birthday, but only if you can keep your hands off that long.

2011 Domaine Sylvain Langoureau St-Aubin 1er Cru "Bas de Vermarain à l'Est"
Review Date: 8-6-2013
Crisp and stylish. Lovely flowery fruit. Plenty of depth, energy and concentration underneath and a very long finish. Love St-Aubin, white Burgundies at affordable prices!

Rotari Rosé Brut Talento Trento
Review Date: 8-6-2013
The Rotari Rosé is a combination of 10% chardonnay and 90% pinot nero. All grapes are grown in the Adige Valley north of Trento, located in the heart of the Dolomites. It is produced in the “metodo classico” and adheres to the strict standards of quality mandated by the Trento DOC . It has a delicate salmon-pink color and is aged on its lees for 24 months, which gives it a richness that hints of yeastiness. The first thing that hits your tongue is a hint of strawberry followed by pomegranate flavors, a fine mousse and very dry finish. I love these bubbles and the price, so grab a few bottles for a great way to start your summer evenings.

Montechiara Prosecco DOC
Review Date: 2-28-2013
Italian bubbles for ten bucks, what did we just step back in time? Nope just another Great bargain wine from K & L! This is the perfect wine for all your spring holiday parties, for there is nothing better than Prosecco, for crowd pleasing and value. This has a light straw yellow hue and has a fine mousse and delicate, with a long-lasting bead. On the nose you will find generous fruit, releasing hints of pear and nectarines. The palate has wonderful balance and elegance, dry & crisp, but admirable fullness and length, closely mirroring the nose. Buy a case; these make great gifts as well.

2011 Corte Rugolin Valpolicella Classico
Review Date: 2-21-2013
Elena and Frederico Coati, a brother and sister team who make dynamite wines, are responsible for this great and affordable wine, they make sensational wine at every level. This is their basic level Valpolicella, but there is nothing basic about this wine. It is full-bodied and elegant and aromatic and has great balance classic fruitiness with an excellent finish (and only 12.5 alcohol, yes, someone remembers how to do that). Perfect for spring evenings and delicate pasta or a roasted chicken.

Ca de Medici "Terra Calda" Lambrusco
Review Date: 8-25-2012
it’s back!!! And Wooohooo. Greg and I discovered this winery at VinItaly many years ago and found the distributor and introduced this to many happy clientele (we sold a lot of this) then it stop coming into California, a very sad day. I missed this Lambrusco, very dry, some cherry cola and lots of spice, the prefect wine for the last days of summer.

On the nose you will find generous fruit, releasing hints of apples and peaches. The palate has wonderful balance and elegance, dry & crisp, but admirable fullness and length, closely mirroring the nose. This is an excellent aperitif for all social occasions.
