2005 Crane Brothers "Crane Brothers Vineyard - Hillside Block" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

I tried hard, perhaps too hard, to like this wine but just couldn't get there. It seems to have some complexity but the acidity and tannins have not calmed down (despite a good decant)and the fruit never came through. Seems like this a $12-14 wine sold at $20 masquerading at $50. Did not calm down or come around even on Day 2.

Not much nose. Not much oak. Not much fruit. My friends were nice to say "well, it's ok for our last bottle of the night...." Lots of better choices for this price.

2008 Bernier Chardonnay Vins du Pays Jardin de la France

Hard to bag on a $7 wine but this is way over hyped. Starts with a beautifully fragrant nose of tropical fruit then downhill from there. Light/medium weight. Grass, grapefruit (most comments were "this is a Sav Blanc, right?). Little to no oak. High, biting acidity. Again, is was $7. gws
