2012 Alfaro "A" Estate Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
Review Date: 6-10-2014
I love selling this wine, as it is EASILY one of the best $20 Pinots sold at K&L. Great ripeness of fruit, balanced by fresh acidity and gentle tannin. Purity of fruit and lovely texture make this a Pinot everyone can get behind!

2011 Pierce Ranch "GSM" San Antonio Valley Rhone Blend
Review Date: 5-30-2014
Do you love affordable Cote du Rhone with great character? The classic GSM blend can be every bit as expressive and delicious when made in California. A great balance of dark ripe fruit and savory intrigue make this is a wine worth trying. You will be impressed by how good this wine is for $15!!!

2009 Ici/La-Bas "Les Reveles-Elke Vineyard" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
Review Date: 5-9-2014
This wine really displays the more savory-side of Pinot Noir. Notes of dried fennel, flowers and and exotic spice, this wine is showing some development in the bottle. Earthy to the core, this Pinot also exhibits classic red fruit aromas and flavors on the palate, as well as a bright refreshing acidity. A great bottle to drink and ponder over the course of an evening!

2008 Ici/La-Bas "Victoria - Elke Vineyard" Anderson Valley Chardonnay
Review Date: 5-9-2014
Stylistically, this rich and unctuous chardonnay is evocative of the wines of Meursault. The oak is highly present on the nose, followed by a long, rich and broad palate impression. There is plenty of fresh acidity and mineral tones here, as well as unexpected refinement on the back end. It all comes together for a very decadent and highly enjoyable experience.

2009 Kenneth Volk Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 5-8-2014
This rich and fruit-driven Cabernet offers notes of ripe sweet blueberry and blackberry fruit, as well as underlying hints of tobacco and graphite. Clean and fresh, this Cab has rounded edges throughout and a dry finish.

2010 Qupe "Bien Nacido Hillside Estate" Santa Maria Valley Roussanne
Review Date: 5-7-2014
This Roussanne achieves the perfect balance of richness and precision. Offering notes of fleshy orchard fruit and honey, its wonderful texture follows through on the palate. This is a must-try for fans of Rhone Valley whites.

2010 Qupe "Bien Nacido Vineyard" Santa Maria Valley Syrah
Review Date: 5-7-2014
An absolute benchmark for Syrah in California. Tremendous purity and varietal correctness, this Syrah offers the classic combination of rich dark fruit and savory meaty character. Beautifully balanced by fine tannin and fresh acidity, it represents the type of highly affordable and highly enjoyable wines we are all looking for in life! A few will be finding their way to my cellar very soon.

2011 Villa Creek "Bassetti Vineyard" Paso Robles Syrah
Review Date: 5-7-2014
Looking for something to get that special “wine geek” in your life? Look no further! The 2011 Villa Creek Bassetti Syrah is not your proto-typical Paso Robles Syrah. Highly aromatic, it really displays the savory side of Syrah. Notes of dark fruit, herbs, smoke rose and exotic spice. Like all the Villa Creek wines, it carries great weight but does so in a balanced, polished and precise way.

2007 Clendenen "Le Pip" Santa Maria Valley Nebbiolo
Review Date: 5-7-2014
A nose of sappy red fruit and rose, this Nebbiolo spills across the palate with mouth-coating richness. True to form, it finishes dry with that classic grippy Nebbiolo acid/tannin structure. An honest wine, and a great domestic Nebbiolo.

2013 Clendenen Santa Maria Valley Mondeuse Rosé
Review Date: 5-7-2014
This is one of my top rosé picks for the summer! Incredibly light in hue, resembling in color the rosés of Provence. Marked by refreshing acidity and an intriguing saline character, this is a wine unto its own. There is softness to the mid-palate, and just enough fruit to please a crowd. This wine will make repeat appearances for me in the months to come.

2011 Kenneth Volk Touriga Nacional
Review Date: 5-7-2014
This is an incredibly unique and delicious bottle of wine! Notes of dusty dark fruit, flowers and earthy savor lead to a palate of sweet ripe fruit. Finishing dry with gentle tannin, this wine brings serious character to the table! This will pair perfectly with meals of the rustic variety, with grilled meats in particular.

2006 Clendenen "Rancho La Cuna" Santa Maria Valley Syrah/Viognier
Review Date: 5-6-2014
This is easily one of my favorite domestic wines in the store! Highly aromatic, with a nose of savory dark fruit, lavender, herbs, garrigue and cracked black pepper. This wine smacks of the Northern Rhone, but offers accessibility without the requisite 10 years of cellaring. That said, this wine has the chops to sit under the house for another decade.

2012 Vina Robles "WHITE 4" Paso Robles White Blend
Review Date: 5-6-2014
Rich and soft, this white coats the palate without being opulent. Clean and crisp, the Vermentino lends a wonderful green spiciness to the back-end making this an incredibly refreshing and easy drinking white. This is the perfect crowd-pleasing party wine!

2011 Pierce Ranch San Antonio Valley Arinto
Review Date: 5-6-2014
Arinto!? I was thinking the same thing. This was my experience with the grape varietal, and I have to admit...I was pleasantly surprised! Aromatically it offers notes of intense lime citrus and chalky minerals. On the palate it carries weight, but has uniformity and linear focus. This wine finishes fresh with great acidity and spice.

2012 Bishop's Peak San Luis Obispo Pinot Noir
Review Date: 4-23-2014
Another great Bishop’s Peak Pinot! A core of lovely red fruit and some subtle savory notes, it maintains lovely texture and weight on the palate. Finishing dry, with balanced acidity and freshness on the back-end, this is one of the best Domestic sub-$20 Pinots in the store!
