Sometimes you just want a nice glass of wine. You don't want to invest hundreds of dollars, years of developing your palate to detect the differences between Slovakian and French Oak. You don't want your wine to require a PhD. You just want glass of Bordeaux. This is your wine. Popped and poured (cork broke, usually a bad sign), I was ready to be disappointed, but I'm thrilled. Medium bodied, not overly oaked or too alcoholic. Nice berry nose, good on the palate. Better at the end of the meal than the start, this wine blooms with air. Excellent value, this is the kind of wine you mean when you say 'I had a really nice glass of wine with dinner tonight'.

I really love ciders. It's great to have a low alcohol drink you can consume all night, and I'm really pleased K&L is supporting my habit with interesting ciders.

This cider was a huge disappointment, it is not brut, it's absolutely off dry and very short on the finish. It didn't bring to my palate any depth or complexity, but it is light and drinkable. It's not unpleasant, but for the price and the hype I expected to taste more craft from the fruit.

Earlier I had been blown away by another K&L recommendation: West County Cider's Redfield. The Bordelet was a pale example of artisan cider in comparison.
