Vergano Americano Aperitif 750ml

This is a really fantastic aperitif. Anyone who enjoys drinks with a bitter component owes it to themselves to try out this one! To make the best Negroni I've ever tasted, I use 1.5 parts Vergano Americano, 1 part Blade Gin, and 0.5 part Dolin Rouge Vermouth.
Kuchan Barrel Aged O'Henry Peach Brandy 375ml (out of stock)

Score is kind of meaningless: if you want a true, dry, peach brandy -- not a liqueur -- this is the only game in town. The nose steals the show here: it is jam-packed with absolutely mouthwatering aromas of pure, fresh peaches. It is interesting neat, but as David alludes to, cocktails are where this will really shine. Davorin's far more of an expert than I'll ever be, but I can't help but wonder how this would fair with a little additional time in the barrel. I'll definitely be looking for more cocktails to try this in, but for tonight, I'm enjoying it in a Judgette (from "The Savoy Cockail Book"): 1/3 peach brandy, 1/3 gin, 1/3 dry Vermouth (I'm using Dolin), dash of lime. Shake well with ice; strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Dry as a bone, but delicious!
Luxardo Maraschino Cherries (400g)

These are the final ingredient for the ultimate Manhattan: Stir with ice (gently but thoroughly) 2 parts Crown Royal Reserve (for a bolder drink, substitute your choice of rye whiskey; for a sweeter drink, bourbon), 1 part Quady Vya sweet Vermouth, Regan's Orange Bitters to taste (I like about 4-5 dashes, but I'd suggest starting out with less); strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with one of these sublime cherries. The great thing about these is that both the cherries and their syrup are so dense, they do not really mix with the drink, leaving you a delicious treat at the end without making your cocktail overly sweet. Anywhere one might normally use a "standard" maraschino cherry is a candidate for these, and I'm sure they'd be fantastic on top of vanilla ice cream as well. These don't come cheap, but they're certainly worth trying at least once!

My new favorite wine under $20. It took about 2.5 hours in the decanter to really come into its own, but after that, this is simply a bottle of rustic awesomeness. Dense brick red, with a nose -- more complex than anything I've experienced at this price point -- of saddle leather, mushrooms, cherries, pain grille (this last one dissipates into the background as it opens up, but dominated the nose for me out of the bottle), and more. Mouthfeel is pleasant but rough around the edges, with big, upfront tannins that blend quickly into some huge fruit. It has a beautiful, long finish that, in the very end, is (somewhat oddly) reminiscent of cake batter. With the big tannins and fruit, I expect this one could handle a few years (maybe 5?) of cellar time. 5 glasses at the price; 4.5 glasses overall. Can't believe there were only 300 cases produced, and K&L has more than 20 of them to sell us.
