2010 Te Mata "Awatea" Bordeaux Blend Hawkes Bay New Zealand
Review Date: 5-28-2013
The Awatea is a great example of why we need to have wines from more than a few regions around the world. A Bordeaux blend from Hawkes Bay, it’s not Bordeaux, but has Bordeaux characteristics and not California but has new world characteristics too. The deep dark palate of fruit with wonderful fine tannins is highlighted by lovely exotic wood and fairly delicate spices. There is an enticing minerality and bracing acidity thread all the way through the palate to the finish, and I’d feel very secure putting this down for a number of years to let the secondary characteristics emerge. A fantastic wine and a steal of a price.

2009 Au Bon Climat "Talley Vineyard-Santa Barbara Historic Vineyards Collection" San Luis Obispo County Chardonnay
Review Date: 5-22-2013
Here's a chance to try one of the great ABC Chards that you normally can find only at the winery. It has a lovely bright nose showing the more elegant side of Chardonnay, with lovely peach notes mingled with white flower aromas. On the palate you get a great balance of juicy white peach fruits, soft and modest oak treatment and bright acidity. This is an extremely lovely and uncommonly balanced version showing the best of the varietal and the best of the new world's ability with it. Delicious!

1990 Mortlach 22 Year Old K&L Exclusive Chieftain's Single Sherry Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky 750ml
Review Date: 5-14-2013
Granted I'm a wine guy but I do love a good single malt now and then, and the 1990 Mortlach is a fantastic bottle at a great price for this quality. Long and rich, fruitcake, spices really meaty and complex and a hands down winner. Now this is no lightweight delicate whisky, it has wonderful power and the beauty of sherry barrel ageing, with a wonderful meatiness. David finds us quite a few fantastic gems and this is another winner!

Launois "Cuvée Reserve" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

There's not a lot more to say about this one, it a no-brainer! Grand Cru Champagne of this quality at this price is just not to be missed.

2002 Louis Lequin Santenay 1er Cru "Le Passe-Temps"
Review Date: 4-15-2013
Here's a chance to get ready to drink red Burgundy at a great price. Very Chassagne-like in style, this Santenay nonetheless shows a wonderfully rich texture for a 2002. The nose is exceptionally round and supple with a nice minerally note and lightly spiced. On the palate the wine still shows a lovely texture with a nice structure of fine tannins and minerals with a light touch of earth while maintaining the wonderful sweet cherry richness the nose promised. It absolutely calls out for lambchops on the grill, .

2012 Luli Central Coast Rosé
Review Date: 4-3-2013
I think I've found my summer rose already! Mouthwatering and 'cruchy' red fruits with a slightly fuller body - great for patio duty! Half Pinot and half grenache seamless and only dangerous because you'll always want another glass.

2009 Two Sisters "Lindsay's Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Review Date: 4-3-2013
If you're a fan of rich California style pinots, don't let this one slip by. Rich and round, almost Sonoma in texture with a nice dose of red and blue fruits, spicy notes and the French oak showing through nicely, yet not overpowering Good mouth-watering tannins and a wonderful mid palate weight create a mouthfeel of a very expensive Pinot. At 1/2 the previous price you get a very big deal wine at a fantastic discount.

2010 Calcu Cabernet Franc Colchagua Valley
Review Date: 3-27-2013
Wow, here's a great deal from Chile. The Calcu Cabernet Franc is a fantastic example of new world Cab Franc showing wonderful plummy fruit, a great texture and body and just a hint of sweet herbs. Still undeniably Cab Franc, yet very accessible and crowd friendly. As grilling season begins you'll want to have some of this around for impromptu BBQs and for when friends drop by.

2011 Kingston Family Vineyards "Cariblanco" Sauvignon Blanc Casablanca Valley
Review Date: 3-27-2013
I love this SB due to it's purity of flavors and wonderful texture. It's a more complex Sauvignon Blanc than you'll generally find, with wonderful citrus flavors (none of that ... uhemmmm ... 'cat' quality) and good acidity but with a richer mid palate that is very satisfying.

2005 Pierre Moncuit-Delos Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne
Review Date: 3-20-2013
We always know to pay attention when our Champagne buyer, Gary, says we need to try something. The Moncuit Delos BdB 2005 was one of those and how fantastic is this. A vintage Mesnil of this quality at this price is a rare find. Spectacular focus and balance - white peach and minerals with a lingering tangerine finish. Rounder than the NV, and less opulent than the VV, this marks a sweet spot in Grand Cru Champagne you could expect to pay twice as much for. Treat yourself on your next special occasion and you won't regret it.

2010 Maison Jacques Bavard Auxey-Duresses Rouge
Review Date: 3-12-2013
Fine balanced Burgundy at this price? You bet. Slightly lighter in style than the Monthelie from this producer, but in the same beautifully pure and clear flavor profile. And my goodness, what a price. You'll be tempted to drink it all now, but put some down for a few years, it'll pay off well.

2010 Maison Jacques Bavard Monthelie Rouge
Review Date: 3-12-2013
At this price I grabbed some quickly - get yours before it sells out. Montelie at its finest - absolutely pure wild strawberry/cherry fruit with classic minerals and a hint of spice. This is on the rich side of medium bodied and a great way to pump up your cellar with some 2010 Burgundy that is solid as they come. The combination of elegance and substance is really charming.

Review Date: 3-12-2013
