2010 Fromm Winery "La Strada" Pinot Noir Marlborough New Zealand
Review Date: 4-23-2013
Dark cherry and spice are present in spades on the nose, with plenty of effusive fruit. I love this wine's purity but there is plenty of acid and structure to knit this wine together for the long haul. I'm buying some for the cellar now!
1979 Glenfarclas K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky 750ml
Review Date: 12-26-2012
This whiskey really impressed me. From the nose to the first moments on the palate it's all about finesse. While not completely obscured, the sherry notes are definitely not overpowering - there's round, rich, supple texture and plenty of dried fruit. What struck me the most, however, was the marriage of ethereal flavors (smoke?, vanilla, dried fruit, slight medicinal note?) and incredible mouth-feel. This is a really special whiskey.
2002 Bruno Michel "Cuvee MillÚsime" Brut Champagne
Review Date: 9-29-2011
What a killer champagne at a fair price! It's super dry and minerally- the perfect aperitif champagne. My notes when I tasted it read: "A fantastic nose of yeast and herbs married toa focused and minerally palate impression." At $50, this might be one of the best deals in the store.
2008 Make Work Wines "The Plan" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend
Review Date: 8-29-2011
This is a very drinkable bordeaux blend from the folks who do the Hobo Wines. For spending time in 100% new oak, the wine isn't overdone; it's supple and right, being among the most drinkable young bordeaux blends in the store. I'm putting some away for cooler weather.
2003 d'Angludet, Margaux
Review Date: 4-30-2011
In 2003 I was backpacking across Europe and saw firsthand the devastating effect the drastic heat had on the population of Europe as well as the land. The 2003 d'Angludet Margaux however, seems to have captured all the heat and intesity of the summer and transformed it into an elegant and beautiful example of a first-rate Bordeaux. There is plenty of dark fruit with nice balance and finish.
