Customer Reviews - Blake Yarger

My first love was Pinot noir. My more recent buying habits have focused on Syrah from California, as well as wines of the Rhone, Loire, and Italy. I tend to seek out wines that are more "natural", maybe wild fermented, low sulfites, maybe organic or biodynamic. I love to experiment with new regions and varietals. I love whites too but tend to buy cheap, and I don't drink enough rosé.

2004 Domaine La Roquète Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Review Date: 04-23-2011
I have enjoyed the Brunier's other wines from CndP and Gigondas, so I was of course going to try this bargain. Loved it. Garnet, with nice clarity. Aromas of flowers, cherries, slight menthol. Agile and complex through a long and delightful finish. Medium body.

2005 Crane Brothers "Crane Brothers Vineyard - Hillside Block" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 04-23-2011
I really enjoyed this wine. It is under 14% abv and has nice complexity and structure, and shows classic balance and varietal components. Its' aromas and flavors include plum and boysenberry, savory herbs, and sweet spices. I like the integration of oak, acid, and tannin.

2009 Domaine A&P De Villaine Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise Rouge "La Fortune"
Review Date: 04-16-2011
Decanted for a couple hours. Bright, youthful color. Aromas of red currants, dry leaves, and Asian spices. A bit tight, with some noticeable tannins and mouthwatering acidity. Very enjoyable wine, food friendly, complex, and age worthy. Not cheap, but well worth the price.

2004 Aglieta Brunello di Montalcino
Review Date: 04-16-2011
Mike (aka "Guido") at the SF store recommended decanting this wine for at least six hours before drinking. It was good advice, as the tannins were initially quite intense. The next day, as the tannins had softened a bit, I really enjoyed this wine. Dusty, rose petals, sandalwood, cherries, earth, and a lot of grippy tannins. Nice complexity. More rustic than elegant. I think it could definitely could be put down for a while longer. I'm buying more to taste over the next few years.
