2014 Tapiz "Alta Collection" Malbec Mendoza Top Pick!
2014 Tapiz "Alta Collection" Malbec Mendoza

95 points James Suckling: "A solid wine with blackberry and black pepper character. Full body, chewy tannins and a fresh and cool finish. So polished and beautiful. From grapes grown in Valle de Uco. Pomerol's legend Jean-Claude Berrouet consults here. Better in 2018." (5/2016) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Sitting at 4,400 feet in altitude, the San Pablo area is now one of the most sought-after spots for grape growing in the Uco Valley. At that altitude, malbec grapes ripen with intense flavors and firm acidity, as in this red from vines planted in 2007. It is rich in notes of tart cherries and violets with a p ...Read More »

2015 Trivento Malbec Reserve Mendoza

95 points Decanter: "Gorgeous nose exhibiting an array of aromas such as peppery mulberry, sour and black cherry, violet and a subtle touch of wild strawberry jam. The palate is full, complex, with a fantastic energy and bursting with ripe dark plums; tannins are impressively silky and freshness is amazing. An exceptional nectar from the Agrelo terroir." K&L Notes: Michael Schachner of Wine Enthusiast writes: "As recently as the 1990s, many Argentine wineries produced crude, inconsistent wines that were heavy and lacked balance. 96 points James Suckling: "A wine with lots of depth and fruit now with dark berry and dark chocolate character. Full body, velvety tannins and a long and flavorful finish. So much here. Give it four to five years bottle age. Great wine." (5/2016) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Cabernet’s spice and mint notes mix here with deep cassis flavor. It’s tender, with enough depth for long-cooked meat and with tense acidity from its Andean origin in San Pablo, one of the highest areas planted to vines in Valle de Uco." 2016 Gen del Alma "Ji Ji Ji" Malbec/Pinot Noir Gualtallary (Previously $18)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The red 2016 JI JI JI is a 50/50 blend of Malbec and Pinot Noir from eight-year-old vines in Gualtallary (Tupungato Winelands) on granite and limestone soils with a 20-centimeter layer of sand that fermented together with carbonic maceration. The wine was bottled unoaked. It feels a lot more serious and complete than previous vintages, and they attribute it to the superb vintage in Gualtallary, which surely affected the wines; ripeness was very slow, and there are more floral aromas. 2015 Noemia de Patagonia "A Lisa" Malbec Rio Negro Top Pick!
2015 Noemia de Patagonia "A Lisa" Malbec Rio Negro

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 A Lisa is mostly Malbec with some 9% Merlot and a 1% pinch of Petit Verdot, a wine that shows the potential of Río Negro in Patagonia and the style of Noemía at a very attractive price and at the same time is easy to drink. 2015 seems to be an excellent vintage in the region, and this wine, which only saw 30% of its volume in neutral, well-seasoned oak barrels while the rest was kept in stainless steel for some nine months, shows a balance and freshness that can compete with the fines vintages produced. In his search towards elegance, finesse an ...Read More »

2016 Amalaya Torrontes Riesling Salta

95 points Decanter: "The nose offers a beguiling mix of pineapples and grapes. Inviting jasmine and crisp peach flavours meld with an attractive mouthfeel. Superbly made, with splendid varietal characters. One glass of this won't be enough!" K&L Notes: Colomé is Donald Hess' groundbreaking Argentinian winery in the rugged, high elevation Salta region. Amalaya is a label from this winery that presents blends based on Torrontes (for the white) and Malbec for the red. Gorgeous to drink now but will improve in the next few years." (5/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Malbec Estate has a similar blend of Malbec for the three zones and altitudes (1,700, 2,300 and 2,600 meters) with wines with higher acidity and a stronger tannic structure. It was bottled after 15 months in barrel (15% new), and the oak is nicely integrated. The nose might be a bit shy; there are subtle herbs, wild berries and some spices. 2015 Valentin Bianchi "Elsa Bianchi" Malbec Mendoza

Wine Spectator: "Bright and juicy, with fresh flavors of red plum, currant and raspberry. Offers a plush, round finish. (KM, Web-2016)" K&L Notes: The Elsa Malbec comes from Valentin Bianchi's Doña Elsa estate in the cool reaches of San Rafael, Mendoza. With just a kiss of French oak, the rich fruit dominates this easy-drinking red, which has barely-there tannins. Invoke your inner-Argentine and drink this alongside grilled flank steak with a garlicky chimichurri. Many previous vintages recommended by Wine Enthusiast as a "Best Buy."

2016 Bodegas Colomé Torrontes Valle Calchaquí Salta

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Torrontés is sourced from 50-year-old parral vineyards that yielded 10,000 kilos per hectare from vines planted at 1,700 and 2,300 meters altitude. Some 10% of the grapes were harvested early to provide freshness. It fermented slowly with neutral bayanus yeasts for some 35 days and lots of fine lees and was bottled without malolactic in the month of June. 2014 La Posta del Viñatero "Pizzella Vineyard" Malbec Mendoza

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Malbec Pizzella Vineyard is from Altamira. The vineyard was originally 17 hectares and the owner planted an additional 12 (and is planting yet more), so there is room to grow. This is the most harmonious, elegant, and at the same time backward, of the three single-vineyard Malbecs. Not as showy as the others in the palate either as the tannins are austere and the chalky minerality sticks to your teeth. The differences between the three Malbecs is clear as they each reflect where the grapes grow. The riper, warmer one from Ugarteche, the fresher, ...Read More »

Crios means offspring (as in children). A rich, ripe, fairly classic Chardonnay with old school California leanings except...this one is from Argentina! The California connection here is that noted consultant and winery owner Paul Hobbs owns Viña Cobos, and is making wines that have his stylistic stamp, but perhaps just slightly dialed back from the usual ripeness and fruitiness. Here we have an appley Chardonnay, with hints of toast (5% of the wine is aged in French oak, a small portion of which is new) and a genuinely crowd pleasing style. Very well made.

The aim with the Terroir Único line is to show the expression of the chalky soils of Gualtallary through the naked varietal so the wines never see any oak. This is the first vintage where the Malbec takes half of the blend, as they want to increase the Mendoza/Argentina character of the wine reducing the more herbal varieties.
