2013 Bodegas Caro "Caro" Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza

96 points James Suckling: "Extremely beautiful aromas of dried flower, currant, fresh leather and some tar. Full body with silky tannins that give a beautiful texture that leads to ripe currant, orange peel and incense. Complex and complete. 50% Malbec from Agrelo and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon from Valle de Uco. So beautiful now but will age gracefully." (5/2016) K&L Notes: A joint venture between Nicolas Catena and Lafite-Rothschild, the Bodegas Caro Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon (the tried and true Argentinean take on a Bordeaux blend) has become one of the most consistenly highly reviewed Argentin... 2014 Pascual Toso Malbec Maipú

Pascual Toso is based in Mendoza's Maipú district, a historic, sun-drenched winegrowing region just southeast of the city. Their Malbec is a standby of the section for its supple, juicy red and dark fruits. A standby Malbec for a very attractive price. The 2014 vintage has not yet been professionally reviewed, but the 2013 bottling garnered 90 points from James Suckling.

2013 Zorzal "Gran Terroir" Malbec Valle de Uco

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Gran Terroir Malbec is a blend from different vineyards in Gualtallary, the highest part of the department of Tupungato in the Valle de Uco. The grapes fermented in cement vats and matured in used oak barrels for approximately one year. It's very perfumed and spicy, aromatic in a way that makes you go to the glass over and over again. The palate has the 2013 electricity and the Gualtallary chalkiness making for supple, tasty and saline flavors and a very long finish. Simply superb! (LG)" (8/2015)

2005 Bodegas Poesia "Cuvee Helene" Red Argentina Top Pick!
2005 Bodegas Poesia "Cuvee Helene" Red Argentina

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The winery’s flagship is called Poesia and is a blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It too is sourced from an 80 year old vineyard in Lujan de Cuyo. The 2005 Poesia was barrel-fermented and aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it has a high-class aromatic array of pain grille, violets, spice box, black cherry, and blueberry. Smooth-textured, ripe, and sweetly-fruited, this elegant wine is beautifully balanced, nicely concealing enough structure to permit 5-7 years of evolution. It should drink well through 2030. 2014 Zorzal "Eggo-Tinto de Tiza" Mendoza

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Eggo Tinto de Tiza is a blend from three different vineyards in Tupungato Winelands in Gualtallary. It's a blend of mostly Malbec with some Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. As is the case with the whole Eggo range, the wine didn't see any oak, and in this case it was matured in egg-shaped cement vats for one year. There are violets, plums, dark cherries and something earthy. This is slightly riper than the 2013. 2010 Bodega Weinert "Carrascal" Red Blend Lujan de Cuyo

This is perhaps the most traditionally made red wine in Argentina. It's awesome, I love it, our staff loves it, and I suspect many of you looking for something different from Argentina might love it as well. A blend of 45% Malbec, 35% Merlot and 20% Cabernet, this is a savory, dark-cherry-fruited wine, with an excellent sense of individuality and style. Interestingly, the Cab and Merlot seem to stand out much more so than the Malbec in this year's bottling. Fermented in concrete and then aged in used Nevers oak, this is a distinctive wine that's very muc... Read More »

Juicy, savory, minty wine with lovely saline lift and intensity to its citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Brisk acidity draws out the tactile, bright finish. (ST)" (3/2016) 90 points Wine & Spirits: "This comes from the heights of Colomé, one of the highest points in the already very high region of Salta, in the north of Argentina. 2014 Tilia Malbec Mendoza

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The grapes of the 2014 Malbec were harvested very early and 70% of them fermented using carbonic maceration. The freshness is so impressive that I had to look at the alcohol level, which is half a degree lower than in the fresher 2013 vintage! There are some herbal aromas (think raspberry leaf), bright cherries and flowers, even lilies. The palate is very tasty, with some subtle bitter flavors, fine tannins and very good acidity. This is a triumph over the vintage. Bravo! This should be readily available, as they produced 500,000 bottles of it. And it's ...Read More »

(8/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon mixes grapes from Medrano where it is warmer and their vines are young, while Agrelo is fresher (very old vines). This was 20-30% whole-cluster fermented and is very pale colored, almost a rose, very perfumed, with aromas of red fruit and flowers opening to a light to medium-bodied palate, high acidity (blood orange), and a pure, fresh finish. Crios means offspring (as in children). 2015 El Porvenir de Cafayate "Amauta" Tannat Cafayate Valley

Tannat has proven itself in the very high elevation, extremely sunny and dry conditions of Cafayate and Salta. This wine is all sweet red and dark fruits, with noticeable chewy oak adding spicy notes as well. For Tannat, which has the reputation of being dark, brooding, ferociously tannic, this is actually relatively tame, full in flavor, but round and juicy as well, definitely not an all out tannic assault on the gums!
