2013 Zorzal "Terroir Unico" Pinot Noir Uco Valley Top Pick!
2013 Zorzal "Terroir Unico" Pinot Noir Uco Valley

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Terroir Unico Pinot Noir follows the idea of the Terroir Unico range, to show the pure expression of the grape and the place in a line of unoaked wines. This was 20-30% whole-cluster fermented and is very pale colored, almost a rose, very perfumed, with aromas of red fruit and flowers opening to a light to medium-bodied palate, high acidity (blood orange), and a pure, fresh finish. Highly drinkable. Can the price be real? (LG)" (4/2014) K&L Notes: Based in the Gualtallary district of the Uco Valley, an area prized for its complex soils containing calcareous,... Read More »

2014 Valentin Bianchi "Elsa Bianchi" Malbec Mendoza Top Pick!
2014 Valentin Bianchi "Elsa Bianchi" Malbec Mendoza

The Elsa Malbec comes from Valentin Bianchi's Doña Elsa estate in the cool reaches of San Rafael, Mendoza. With just a kiss of French oak, the rich fruit dominates this easy-drinking red, which has barely-there tannins. Invoke your inner-Argentine and drink this alongside grilled flank steak with a garlicky chimichurri. Many previous vintages recommended by Wine Enthusiast as a "Best Buy."

Supple and on the soft side, with good texture and a hint of rusticity to the broad plum and leather flavors; more red fruits than black. Finishes with a touch of sweetness and easygoing tannins." 2012 Chaman Malbec Reserva Mendoza

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Chaman Malbec Reserva is from La Consulta from vines planted in 2006, has ripe aromas of dark cherries, and is juicy and spicy, floral and perfumed, with ripe, sweet tannins, good acidity and pure, clean flavors that call for the next sip, like an explosion in the mouth, with a salty, tasty, mineral finish. Great Malbec and even better price. Drink now-2018." 2013 Antucura Cabernet Sauvignon Vista Flores Top Pick!
2013 Antucura Cabernet Sauvignon Vista Flores

95 points Decanter: "Gorgeously refined, almost French in style. Typical Vista Flores notes of violets, lavender, tobacco and black pepper on the nose. The palate is medium to full-bodied with very fine-grained, classy tannins. Fruit characters on the palate are more dried fruit than lush and primary. Lovely age-worthy Cabernet." (12/2014) K&L Notes: Antucura has proven themselves quite adept at producing purely fruited reds (both Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon) that express their Vista Flores origins, as well as a deft touch in the cellar. 2011 Bodegas Hinojosa "H" Malbec Mendoza

Located between the towns of Tunuyan and Tupungato in the Uco Valley, Bodegas Hinojosa has somehow been flying undar my radar until quite recently. This is a terrific everyday red, offering plenty to like for both those experienced and new to Argentinean Malbec. Bright purple-fleshed fruit flavors are generous and wondefully fresh, a hallmark of the 2011 vintage. Soft, supple, vibrant fruit, hints of baking spices, perhaps a touch of candied violet. 2014 Dominio del Plata "Crios de Susana Balbo" Malbec Mendoza

Crios means offspring (as in children). Susana selected a word to express the notion that these are wines that haven't quite 'grown up' to the same level of maturity as her more expensive Susana Balbo signature label wines, but they receive the same loving care and attention throughout the winemaking process. The label features a series of three connected and overlapping hands, an image inspired by a Mayan artifact. The three hands represent Susana and her two children.
