2014 Tapiz "Alta Collection" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza

96 points James Suckling: "A wine with lots of depth and fruit now with dark berry and dark chocolate character. Full body, velvety tannins and a long and flavorful finish. So much here. Give it four to five years bottle age. Great wine." (5/2016) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Cabernet’s spice and mint notes mix here with deep cassis flavor. It’s tender, with enough depth for long-cooked meat and with tense acidity from its Andean origin in San Pablo, one of the highest areas planted to vines in Valle de Uco." Pomerol's legend Jean-Claude Berrouet consults here. Better in 2018." (5/2016) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Sitting at 4,400 feet in altitude, the San Pablo area is now one of the most sought-after spots for grape growing in the Uco Valley. 2009 Bodegas Poesia "Cuvee Helene" Red Argentina (Previously $20) Top Pick!
2009 Bodegas Poesia "Cuvee Helene" Red Argentina (Previously $20)

Bodega Poesia is a project created by Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and her husband, winemaker Patrice Lévêque. With their multiple properties throughout Bordeaux (Clos l’Église Pomerol, Barde-Haut, Haut Bergey and Branon) the next logical move for them, as for many Bordeaux families, is to establish a winery in South America. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec flourish in Argentina. Founded in 1998, Bodega Poesia has quickly established itself as one of the top producers of Malbec, under the guiding hand of Patrice Lévêque with the marketing acumen of Hélène... Read More »

2015 Benmarco Malbec Uco Valley

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are more notes of aromatic herbs (thyme mainly) in the nose of the 2015 Benmarco Malbec, from a year with an extra degree of freshness compared with 2014. This is also sourced from Los Chacayes and matured in used oak barrels. The palate shows great balance, very fine tannins and a fine thread of acidity going through its core, lifting it up and giving it length. Some 100,000 bottles produced." (12/2016) K&L Notes: Another label from Susana Balbo's Dominio del Plata, Benmarco makes excellent value Malbec and Cabernet based wines. The Malbec comes from Los Chaca... Read More »

2016 Bodegas Colomé Torrontes Valle Calchaquí Salta

Some 10% of the grapes were harvested early to provide freshness. It fermented slowly with neutral bayanus yeasts for some 35 days and lots of fine lees and was bottled without malolactic in the month of June. This is perfumed and lightly floral with the Torrontés notes making an appearance in the palate, which fills the mid palate and leaves that sensation of Moscatel pulp. 2016 Dos Minas Torrontes Cafayate

As Sauvignon Blanc is to New Zealand, Torrontes is to Argentina. This fun, kicky label is no mass-market brand. It's a very small production project from the northern Cafayate region, ideal for growing crisp white wines like this. Importer Michael Skurnik tells the story: "The dos minas ("two chicks" in Argentine slang) of the name are Lucía Romero, who runs Bodega El Porvenir de los Andes in Cafayate, Argentina, and Heather Willens, who came to Buenos Aires via California and has experience working with small wineries in Argentina. Both are champions of... Read More »

The fruit is a little sweet but there are nice ripe strawberry flavours and a flower laden finish." 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As it was the case with the 2013, the 2014 Benmarco Malbec was produced with grapes from vineyards in Los Chacayes in the Valle de Uco and produced with as ...Read More »

Crios means offspring (as in children). Formerly the most widely planted variety in Argentina, Bonarda still enjoys wide spread popularity amongst locals in and around Mendoza. The palate has those fine-grained, sharp tannins and very good freshness. Love it or hate it, this will surely divide people. It should age magnificently." (12/2016) K&L Notes: Produced from vines in the Pedriel sub-zone, this wine absolutely is Cabernet Franc in character, with a combination of a savory and subtly snappy green character aligned with a real richness and velvety mouth feel.
